Octy Mk1 front speakers

Featured Replies

Hi all, have just got a '98 TDI GLX which a kind previous owner has put in a nice jvc HU already. However they didn't bother with changing the speakers and, tbh they sound c**p. I think there is a tweeter near the wing mirror and a woofer (if you can call it that) in the door and thats it. How easy is it to change these and what will fit? I'm thinking that the tweeter is gonna be a pain so might just go for some 2-ways instead. Any recommendations? I don't want to spend alot really I just wana hear my tunes properly.:)

Believe it or not, the standard speakers can be made to sound much better if you cut out the plastic lining in the door card I believe.

You may also prefer to disconnect the rear tweaters which are at the front of the rear doors, by the handle. If you have long legs and drive with the seat far back, these little blighters can really get you in the ears. The tweets can be disconnected from the main rear speakers by the parcel shelf.

I think there's a post of two about this. Otherwise, I'm sure others will comment with their changes.

Oh, and as it's your first post, welcome to Briskoda :)

Absolute doddle to change.

The grill over the woofer unclips in a matter of seconds with a wide flat bladed screwdriver to pop it off.

The plastic cover over the tweeters just pulls off for easy access. There isn't really any way to break anything so just give it a tug.

As for what fits , I keep meaning to search the forums for all the previous posts and compile a definitive list of speakers but it's not happened yet.

Just bear in mind that there isn't much space behind them so you need some quite shallow speakers. They are 17cm apertures should you want to start having a nose on the net

cheers guys thats great. Does anyone know a website/shop that has mounting depths on its site? I've been to a few and they don't seem to have them under the description. And also does anyone have a website they recommend thats good value. Cheers:thumbup:

You'll probably have to look at manufacturers websites for dimensions.

As for sites , MCSDirect and InCarExpress are two of my favourites

cheers, right I think I'm gonna go for pioneer TS-1785's as pioneer reckon they fit. was looking at the specs though and they only go down to 35hz. So, sub? or no sub? (I know I said earlier that I didn't want to spend much but I've got the bug and I like it ;) )

35hz isn't that bad for 17cm speakers. I'd give it a go with them and see how they sound.

If you want more bass then adding a sub is a fairly easy job.

right, got the speakers looks like it should be fairly straight forward to install, I just need to know what are +ve and -ve wire colours for skoda front speakers?

got them fitted, have to say the clarity is sooooo much better but there's not a lot more bass(didn't cut the skin as I could see moisture on the other side). Think I might ask santa for a sub! Thanks for everyone's help.

Those Pioneer TS-1785 's - did they include tweeters in the kit? I just ask because I saw them here:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/223.html

They're 45 quid, but are they paper cones? And do you know what depth they were?

I'm getting very poor sound from the standard speakers, as well as a nasty cardboardy vibration if I have the bass set to +2, and that's with volume as low as 7. I know about Colin's suggestion of cutting the door card, but don't want to do that, (only the driver side speaker is vibrating btw), and the overall tinny sound is really beginning to grate in my head now.

So, did you get (and fit) tweeters when you bought these?

I was wondering whether to spend a little more and get these for 55 quid:

(low freq = 28Hz, crystalline cone)

It would be really interesting to know if anyone at all has ever managed to get a decent sound out of any speaker that they have put in the front doors of an Octy 1. I tried a few changes with mine but never got any oomph. Having read a few threads on this subject, and going by my own experience, it would seem that there simply isn't enough space in the door to create any kind of bin, so no bass is ever really achieved. I think this might be why cutting out the back of the speaker area might work as it is possibly opening up the speaker to a bigger area so that it can actually move some air. Has anyone had any good results with Octy 1 door speakers?

The tweeters came with the speakers and were fairly easy to fit. The woofers are mader out of some kind of plastic. tbh there wasn't much increase in bass but the tweeters are definatly less grating....

Get them from www.mcsdirect.co.uk for

A decent amp/sub in the boot will sort you out with any additional bass that you may require  And also a seperate (higher quality amp) and not your HU will also to some degree help with the quality of the sound from the front components.

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk is a good place for info (albeit a bit bitchy at times)

Now this IS useful: list of pioneer speakers to fit the Octavia:

http://www.pioneer-eur.com/files/SFYC/indexfcf1.html?action=getspeakers&sBrand=SKODA&iCarTypeID=1162

I am wondering whether to buy the TS-1785 component set, and fit the tweeters to the rear doors instead of the front... in the hope it might reduce the tinny sounds of the rear tweeters - or are the tweeters in the rear doors a different size to the tweeters at the front?

Thanks,

B

Doesn't matter for speakers, as long as they are the same ie both speakers -ve same colour (sound waves stuff).

I read in another post that the colours are:

Driver side: +ve : blue/white. -ve: brown/white

Psngr side: +ve : red. -ve: brown/red

It might depend on the model year though... wouldn't surprise me if wiring colours changed during model history.

Anyone know if rear tweeters are same size as fronts?

hi i put pioneer ts-g1718 in my front doors and also cut out the plastic sheet behind them.its sounds so much better.:thumbup:think they were only about 30 quid

Decent sound from Octy front speakers? Not the easiest job but I have done it. I even wrote a description of the job over there:

My camera has been broken for a while now. Maybe Santa can do something about that, so I could finally add some pictures too.
