Scratch and Dent Insurance

Featured Replies

Has anybody had experience of separate scratch and dent insurance?

My Skoda dealer has offered it for £300 for 3 years, though I see I can get it for myself on the web for £241.

It covers

  • Paint chips which are less than 150mm in diameter
  • Dents not exceeding 150mm in diameter
  • Scratches less than 150mm in length
  • Paint scuffs less than 150mm in diameter
  • £15 excess per claim, max 3 claims in a year. Possibly a good deal?

Always read the fine print.

A friend took out this kind of insurance for his new Mercedes E 350. Went on holiday and upon return found a small dent in his bonnet with the remains of a large firework rocket lying next to the car.

When he took the car in he was told, because the bonnet is aluminium, it would be £1,100 to repair or £1,800 to replace. When he asked for it to be done on the minor damage insurance policy it was pointed out that on the policy he took out the bonnet, roof and boot are not covered.

I took it as a dealership offer bundled with the GAP insurance (it also included alloy wheels, but only lacquered, not diamond cut, so that part is irrelevant).

6 inches...that'd be quite some `chip`!
