Rapid sport hatch looks similar to A3 saloon

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has seen my white Rapid sport with lowered suspension and black Ray alloys and told me he thinks it looks like an A3 saloon or some sort of hybrid Golf saloon, both of which I'm happy to take as I looked seriously at getting an A3 sport saloon before the rapid. No doubt the A3 drives beautifully with none of the problems, but £19,000 used was just too much. In a really weird way I love my rapid though as for all its faults it's got something of a strong character, it drives well and the engine is great but it constantly let's me down through either bad build or cheap design. Maybe because I'm British not German it's making me quite fond of it. A bit I guess like cars my dad drove in the 1970s.

Can't comment on standard Rapid, but I do know that my Spaceback is mistaken for an A3 all the time. People are pleasantly surprised when they find out that 1) it isn't an Audi and 2) how much cheaper a 1.2 TSI Spaceback is compared to an equivalent A3.

Yes when I first saw a space back sport with panoramic roof in our work car park I thought it was an A3 until I got up to it. At that time I didn't know anything about them but thought it a handsome car. The rapid sport that I have does look a bit like saloon and I can see it resembles an A3 saloon, except I paid half the price so that makes me happy.

Same thing happened to me when I first bought it. Certainly it has borrowed some design ideas from the B pillar to the end when looking from the side.
