PETROL DOWN TO 99p

Featured Replies

Just noticed the our local Tescos is selling petrol for 99.9p. I nearly crashed off the road in amazement. Although this saves a little bit each time you fill up, is this really a good thing?? If fuel goes down is this an indication that things are going wrong with the economic world again. I've heard this could lead to another crash of sorts. What I do know is the company's that make and sell barrels of oil wouldn't sell it cheap if they didn't have to.

Same at Asda too, dont forget these supermarkets are making a lot less profit at this price compared to shell etc to get you onsite in the hope you go instore or at least take the all the locl fuel business.

Just tax it back to £1.5, we Greeks are miles ahead. :D

It wasn't that long ago that petrol broke the £1.00  "psychological" mark and I remember there were widespread protests, particularly from transport companies. I also seem to remember the country wasn't doing too bad despite having "cheap" petrol.

It does seem rather fishy to me that regardless of whether the price of oil is high or low, we are screwed just the same, kind of heads they win, tails we lose.

I was annoyed when it hit £1.00 a gallon!!!

especialy since it was still only 70p a gallon at my famiy home...

I reckon if the oil producers are suffering financially then it's going to have a negative knock on effect on the rest of the world economy.

How do you mean that?

The way I see it is that only a country totally dependant on oil production for revenues will suffer losses. So far, only Venezuelan economy seems to plummet. Russia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Norway, even the UK and the US seem to be in control of the situation.

I see the low oil prices as a counter-balance to the ongoing financial crisis and the tension with Russia.

I would say, enjoy these low prices while they last. The prices will sky rocket again when there will be sufficient demand for crude oil.

It's a fight with new technology... alternative cars...

I only fill up with Tesco Momentum and cant see that coming below £1/litre anytime soon!

Morrisons....

Petrol 99.9 from 104.9 , derv unchanged at 105.9.

Bearing in mind the wholesale prices, it appears it's acceptable to only pass it on to some people as part of a promotion.

Momentum 99 is 104.9p at my local tesco

Cant complain at that. A nice time to own a GTR haha.

I can't be bothered to to explain why it could be bad and have a negative effect, let's enjoy the low prices

Waiting for the government to sneak in a tax rise. I bet they are thinking about it.

Come to think, I bet they are always thinking about it.

Yeah I'm sure old Georgie is rubbing himself at teh prospect of being able to say "with low prices the country can tolerate a duty increase and triple that on diesel because it's bad, mmmkay".

Lol, I'd love the dirty diesels to subsidise my taxes like that.

it's a fight between the Saudis (who are pumping oil so fast the world is running out of capacity to store it) and the Russians who are suffering economic damage as a result (as are we). The Saudis (and the US) want to punish Putin for backing President Assad in the Syrian civil war.

Meanwhile here at home thousands of people are losing their jobs as a result.

Just filled up my truck in Spain ... 97c/litre, about 65p at current rates (and it was a shell motorway services not a random brand!)

Keep it for the buses that run around all major towns and cities and are followed by a cloud of soot, because they're at least 10 years old and filthy.

They'd be better off forcing plug-in hybrid  buses and freight than chasing cars to be honest.

A big high torque electric motor or few would be great for freight surely?

The Putin punishing has sod all to do with Syria. It became necessary when he annexed the Crimea, supported armed insurrection in Ukraine, and murdered 300 people on MH17.

To be honest if I believe anything I'd say it's a mix of punish russia and try and hurt the alternative fuels which are starting to gain some traction before they get a foothold and start towards critical mass.

In Spain just paid 88.9 cents per litre  for Derv at local Alcampo aka Auchan in France.. About 64.5 pence.  Love it The rebound will be horrible I guess.
