SKODA YETI 1.2 TSI S WRONG SIZE TYRES

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have just taken delivery of a Yeti 1.2 TSI S specification which should have come with 215/60 x 16 tyres (chose this spec for the bigger side wall and comfort), but my car arrived with 205/55 x 16 tyres which do not feature anywhere in the Skoda brochure or website. Has anyone else come across this with their new Yeti.

Thanks

Graham

I run both sizes, my summers are 215/60 x 16 and my winters are 205/55 x16 both sets ride well and can use the same size wheels. See details below.

No they haven't, because they publish a "get out clause" in the brochure, and I've no doubt also in the T & C's the OP signed without reading when he bought the car.

Yes I know that, but I wonder how many of those would actually stand up in court? Too many of these clauses could be classified as unfair contract conditions and in some cases what's in the small print has been called into question.

I think that most would find acceptable for instance, certain technical changes which don't affect the performance etc., one make of tyre for another (are these actually specified, wouldn't think so?) but with regards to the tyres the specification/size is there in black and white so that is what should be provided. If they are going to make any changes after the order has been placed/contract entered into these should be notified to the customer beforehand for his agreement or whatever.

Manufacturers have been allowed to get away with this for too long, hide behind their terms and conditions and know that most won't fight them in court due to the cost etc.

What are we to do? Prepare our own specification based on what is available in the brochure/on the web-site and get them to sign that as to what they will supply! :notme:

You could take the car back and say the tyres aren't fit for purpose  :peek:

Were the rims the correct style.

If the dealer does not play ball try a tyre specialist to see if they will do a swap...some money their way obviously. After all you can prove the miles they have done.

Bloody cars, let's all go back to 'orse an' cart.

All,

Just a quick update,Skoda have confirmed that 205/55 16 tyres are the new spec and that the brochures have yet to be updated. They have agreed to retro fit 215/60 16 tyres to my Yeti - a successful outcome

Do the "new spec" allow snow chains to be fitted to the front I wonder.

The OP might well find that there is a better selection of tyres in 205/55-16 when you come to need them.  205/55-16 is one of the accepted Yeti fitments and I ran this size as a winter tyre in preference to 215/60-16 as it was nearer in circumference to the 17" tyres originally fitted and thus a better fit in my view.  These are what are currently fitted to our Yeti with the 17" summer tyres in storage..

In fact I ran the same winter tyres last winter on my Superb 170 4x4 as again, they are an accepted size as shown in the tyre pressure table inside the fuel flap.

A good result for the OP and 'fair do' to Skoda for agreeing the swap. Brochure to spec changes should really be notified to dealers and passed on to customers when they order, because what's possibly irrelevant to most buyers (as I suspect this issue is) may be important to some.

Likewise as a customer, if something is important to you, it's worth making the point of asking for confirmation when you order.

Clearly if you are expecting a car with sat Nav and it turns up without, that is a material change and 'cut and dried' - I'm not sure a slightly different tyre size would be viewed as such if 'push came to shove' unless the customer had confirmed this at the time of order.

The moral of the story with any car purchase is to get anything important to you checked at the point of order.

Great result.

I wish now I'd pursued my lack of side protection mouldings - listed in the brochure but not on the car when I picked it up. The salesman wasn't aware of the change in specification. No surprise there!

Only reason I didn't take up the claim was because I wanted the L&K ones (black and alloy) rather than the body colour ones and so sorted them myself.

I wonder if the best thing to ask of the salesman before signing on the dotted line is simply 'please can you confirm any differences to the specification as described in the brochure'. And make the point that any changes not previously advised may lead to you rejecting the car. I'm sure that the dealers will get some sort of bulletin advising them of changes and even if they don't, will be able to make a call to confirm. It seems Skoda brochures are notoriously bad for this and the only way around it is to 'call them out' on their disclaimer.

Yes, in another post I stated that you've almost got to draw up a contract beforehand and get them to sign it!

The maddening thing about my lack of side mouldings is that when I was discussing colours with the salesman he said that some look better with body coloured mouldings and some the black! He obviously hadn't got a clue that Skoda had dropped the mouldings from the SE L (formerly Elegance). Though in his defence they were listed in the brochure.

It's one thing to replace one part with another but to totally omit them!
