Wiper adjustment

Featured Replies

Got the classic wipers hitting a-pillar and have done lots of searching and have found the way to adjust them and am going to have a bash at it. My question is though, do I have to adjust the passenger side wiper as well as the drivers side one?

Thanks

Depends how far out that one is, if you move the drivers side one tooth/spline over it might catch the passenger side and lock up.

That is my worry, it just makes a really annoying clicking sound when it hits the pillar and if I have the wipers on maximum speed, I'm afraid the drivers wiper will shoot off the edge of the car lol (I know the pillar stops it).

I have read lots about solving the problem and nowhere does it say about adjusting the passenger one as well?

It's not the noise that's the problem, it's damaging the a pillar, chances are paint will be chipped now and only get worse and rust.

Over all, it doesn't matter, if you have a wiper puller it takes 30 seconds to adjust the arms so not like it's the end of the world.

Even without a wiper puller they can be pulled off with a little wd40 and bending about :D

Just give it a gentle tweak like I did works a treat been fine for over two years now

Hate to say it but he's probably right :D

Personally I always set the passenger side wiper to park as low as it can go because how far right it gets makes pretty much no difference to your vision.

Now the driver's side one should stay clear even if you have to move it 1 or 2 splines down, and there's actually room above the windscreen base to do so.

The other possibility is that you're got free play in the wiper linkage, and I don't actually have a drawing of the Furbie linkage to know if that's even possible.

Thanks all, will get it sorted at the weekend :-)

There is an alignment mark at the bottom of the windscreen for the blade.  For the end of the blade furthest aways from the spindle.

If your wiper arms are anything like mine you will deffo need a puller to remove them,no chance without one

Sirisly? You can't release them by folding the arm up and using it to rock the splines after loosening the nut?

No chance!

They were seriously corroded, even the heavy duty wiper arm puller I bought took a lot of force to get them off.

There was rust and that horrible white dusty corrosion you get where alloy parts are touching steel.

Also, does anyone know if I have to remove the bonnet? or can you get to them enough without removing it?

cheers

You don't need to take the bonnet off.

You don't need to take the bonnet off.

I don't have convenient access to a Furbie to check, but I'd be surprised if you have to open the bonnet.

You can try the lifting up and rocking method, I've done it on mine and they came off, others dont.

I normally put a little bit wd40 on and leave it for 15 minutes before trying either method anyway.

The bonnet can stay in place, doesnt need to be removed :D

Managed to get it done on my lunch break at work today, came off with a bit of wiggling and some wd40  :D

Now to apply my Dojo Supernatural Glass Sealant and not need the wipers... haha

Good work :)

My fronts came off ok doing that but my rear one needed a puller.
