parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can the parking sensors be fitted as an after thought.

If so how much do you recon from the dealer

Cheers

Can't say from the dealer, but Super Skoda sells the genuine 3-sensor parking sensor retrofit kit for the Rapid and Spaceback for €180.

Any competent mechanic should be able to retrofit, though you will need VCDS to code and enable them.

Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk, please excuse any typos.

I've enquired about this in the UK at a couple of places and was quoted £800-£1000 to do a proper retrofit of the front and rear sensors, including the link to the stereo which reduces the volume and displays the distance. If you search for VAG/VW/Audit/Skoda/Seat Optical Parking Sensors retrofit you can find the companies (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the links here).

Seat dealers do a rear kit for Ibizas with 4 sensors for £199 fitted. (on special - normally £249) probably do Toledo Rapid as well

Thought that option was 4-sensor audio only, rather than fully integrated with radar display on the radio?

But yes, see no reason why it would not fit the Rapid as well.

True it does not integrate with the satnav - even though the nav can display it. Dealer said it has to be factory-fit for that. Maybe they're right.

You can add a backup camera...

This is what I had added to my Sport, from a local specialist. Flush-fit colour coded. The fronts work from a switch located near my right knee, the backs when you go into reverse.

We have fitted to our my MY15 Spaceback the genuine 3-sensor parking retrofit kit is audio only and installs on the LH rear of the vehicle.

There is a spare canbus connector at the RH rear which I have used for the trailer module, so couldn't install the canbus version which displays on the radio.

To be perfectly honest.  I find the so called "radar" display pretty pointless. You wouldn't use it to guide you when reversing, or at least I wouldn't. Bleepers and my own eyes do the job perfectly well, most of the time anyway.

Each to their own of course. I personally find radar to be an essential feature, having had it in the Rapid and the C4 before that. Far more helpful than beeps alone (but obviously not a replacement for looking where you are reversing).

I thought that CANBUS devices are multicast so that any devices can be connected in parallel to the bus and work.

Are you sure you couldn't just connect the camera along with the trailer to the same connection?

Possibly, if the canbus wires can be daisy chained off the connector on the trailer module.
