Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me asap. My diesel auto transmission Octavia 1.6 lost all power and the garage here in France says it's the Gearbox Calculator and want to charge around 2000 euros for repair.

 

Does anyone know if this would be right and would I be better getting the part myself from the UK?

Oh, forgot to add, it's only done around 100,000kms and is Year 2000. I've owned it for 1.5 years. Cheers!

I think there's something lost in the translation there.

 

You say Calculator but his isn't the English word.

 

I assume they probably mean the mechatronics unit?

 

This is the circuit board and solenoids etc inside the gearbox.

 

Did your car ever have the service campaign work done to change the gear oil and update the gearbox ECU?

Keep calm and rent or lend another car while you seek second opinions.

 

Find someone with a VCDS diagnostic cable and software to read out error codes.

 

You can probably get it repaired cheaper at a "pécialiste boite dsg"
