Featured Replies

Hello, is there anyone who knows this vRS?

It has FMIC Toyosports and it seems that even Milltek and remap stage 1. Current seller doesn't know much info about the car :( British ads with information were deleted a few days ago

Thank you

I think for that price I'd stay away from it. Anyway I got you the number to the person who is selling it.

You can find more genuine standard or moderately modified examples for not much more money, if you know what to look out for ebay is less of a gamble these days especially if you focus on the classified ads and buy it now listing. Check auto trader website too.

Wow, thank you so much. I think that the add is outdated because the car is in the Czech republic now. I have number to the current owner. The car is not complete and nobody could tell me which mods have been installed. But now it's clear thank to you. The current owner sells parts from the car.

So insteresting things for buy are these: stainless turboback, ECU, Forge DV, FMIC. Used single mass isn't good, right?

My current car is yellow mk1 vRS ;)

Sorry I didn't realise you were in Czech, were you thinking of buying here and shipping over?

As for the shopping list: FMIC yes. ECU maybe, although you're probably better off getting a map from a rolling road tailored to your car, Forge DV not much point standard one is fine (more reliable), stainless turboback more than likely, depends on cat set up and whether you want hassle of a de-cat if it has one, single mass are more robust but the most dependable clutch upgrade is a vr6 clutch with a g60 flywheel (sachs kit).

Hope that helps. Nice choice of car, I do miss my yellow one despite all the hassle I had with it. They are great cars, I was just a bit unlucky.

Someone from Czech bought the car a few days ago. The car is sold for spare parts by him in Czech now (like so many other RHD Octavias vRS because Octavias vRS are twice cheaper in England). I found the ad on a Czech website yesterday and I wanted to know which mods the car has because the current owner know nothing about car's mods.

Thank you for your help about the shopping list. I'll try to visit him because of exhaust and ECU. I want second ECU for remap and first one for mot because in Czech is a new mot procedure and there can be a problem with remap.

I have some problems with my vRS too but I still love the car :)

I'm sorry if my English isn't good.

The exhaust should be worth it, how do emissions tests work in Czech? Interesting about ecu, do they go that far into it on test then?

Your English is fine, better than many Brits who post in UK forums!

I don't know how emissions tests and ECU-checks work. A testing operation of new emissions tests and ECU-checks has been running from December 1. My well-known officer of mot said me last week that new emissions tests are hard to pass even for many stock cars. ECU-checks are implemented especially because of deleted DPFs. Officers of mot and repair shops (maybe only official repair shops) must check whether an ECU is modified.

I can understand getting strict with emissions but checking ecu seems a bit harsh. Surely it's more of an insurance or classification of car issue more than a test of roadworthiness, oh well, this is the world we live in.

I would imagine the ecu interrogation is mostly to do with the dpf deletes - if it shows no dpf operations, its pretty obvious its gone, which may be a breach of new cz regs.

but that would only apply to diesels? I dont really see how it would apply to an old mk1, built to pass older regs. Imo if its still within the "as built" parameters it should pass. Unless cz official are now trying to get all the older cars off he roads?

Remaps are illegal modifications in Czech such as another ECU modifications so yes one reason is the insurance and homologation. No, they will check also gasolines.

mac11irl, you're right, it's especially because of the old cars. But I think there will be problems with that.

Didnt know remaps are illegal there... must be some what a pain in the ass for anyone who likes to modify there cars having to have a standard everything for test time?

  • Author

There was almost no problem with modified cars until now. But we will see. If it is so strict, problem will be even FMIC...

BTW I visited the owner of the car yesterday and bought this: rear bumper, ECU and exhaust. The exhaust is made by Longlife and it has 55mm in diameter, also de-cat downpipe has 55mm (But stock downpipe has 49mm in diameter, right?). A surface of the exhaust doesn't look so stainless. Can it be too old?
