What would you consider instead of an Octy L&K

Featured Replies

We are starting the process of selecting a car to replace the L&K next year, it will probaly be on 120000 by March.

Its been a great car & we have a fantastic dealer so the obvious choice is another L&K Diesel but I just wondered what other cars people would look at in the same price range .

Im a tadge disapointed that things like xenons & decent wheels are now extras on the L&K as is the sun roof. Also the only Octy 2 L&K we tried was very rattly inside due to badly fitted trim although Im hoping this is the exception.

We Intend to look at Saabs although I havent compared what you get for your money yet. I just wondered what cars others have considered, would considrer or have even bought instead

Honda Accord diesel? No idea on specs, but seem to get excellent write ups :D

Company car drivers here at a certain level get Saabs, and most of them are disappointed with them - build quality doesn't seem great, and engine warning lights seem to be one of those unsolveable mysteries...

Volvo V50 or V70, BMW 320d, Jag 2.2d estate, New Passat, Citroen C5 estate, 407 SW (talk to Paul for a decent deal ;) ) Accord Tourer (huge boot); Mazda 6 estate or, off the wall a Mazda 5 ;)

Depends how much you want to spend.....

apparently the V50 is a cracking car for the sector it sits in...

to be honest i think you are going to struggle to match the L&K for spec for £££ but i've only ever heard good things about the Accord diesel although the estate is a minger imo.

Is it to replace Wendy's? That's why I listed estates where poss. What's the price on the L&K estate, specced up?

is the car going to be brand new or would u consider 2nd hand ones?

Are you going to suggest an Audi? :D

def new as its a work horse, If we were considering s/hand we would seriously look at an Octy 1 L&K with low mileage

Have you tried an Octy 2 105PD 4x4? Jabba should be able to map it to over 150bhp as it has a nice FMIC also the 4wd would be good for your skiing trips.

After looking at both my dad chose the Passat SE 2.0Tdi over the Octavia L&K 2.0 Tdi. They were the final two in the running after looking at everything else out there.

Just a "left of centre" thought here.....

....is the only thing causing the change the mileage or are there other considerations e.g worn interior, would like to change etc?

If it's just mileage why not have the engine stripped and rebuilt? Not sure if this is worthwhile or cost effective though.

Having had the IHI the car feels like something new and different...everything else works fine so why change?

just curious since you mentioned it but could the engine not in theory do near double that mileage before needing such a job done? if doing that you could always just stick a low milage pd 150 unit in it and get it remapped. would be a different car then :D

Great Ideas but the car has to be 100% reliable as its a work hack & needed every day, as it gets older reliability might become a problem.

Under my wifes agreement with the company she is not allowed a car over 4 years old so it has to go in the next year anyway. Therefore no point in spending loads of money on it just in case. I doubt if the Engine will let us down, it will be silly little components that start to fail & you can never cover that. We had to limp it to the garage last night as its top speed had dropped to about 70 (50 up hill). hopefully the air mass jobby but still is it telling us something

If we can make the numbers stack the old L&K may well also become my daily run around to save the 4x4 so another reason to buy something new

Passat or Accord for me Stuart, knowing what you want it for.

Thanks Jon, will still look at the saab 93 though, slightly different I know. a mates got one & its been a fantastic car, far better than the BMW 3 series he also runs

Stuart, I'm a SAAB nut, and I do think the 93 is a good car. However, if you're going down that route, run with the masses and get a Vectra ;)

when i think of saab all i think is 9-5 aero (with hirsch performance pack)...

personally (a tad biased) go for the MII L&k - just got in from driving mine from the broker (autofinders) - and certainlya good drive, response etc (and not a single rattle - 200 miles and counting) + heard that skoda is being a bit of a pain with uk stock levels at present - mine took 6 months and not that much out of the ordinary. Due to the job ie been in shed loads of saabs, vectras and vw's and the new motor is far better (will see after 30k if the same - hopefully :) )

now to change the signature....

Honda Accord - Quiet, refined but lacking the grunt of VAG diesel engines and a bit

spartan on the spec front. Expect to pay a fair bit for options and

you'll need them.

VW Passat SE- VAG Grunt, nice drive but a bit wallowy, SE spec a bit mean and

options cost up to 3x those of the Skoda. Restrictive boot access

Skoda OctyII L&K - Lot's for your money. (Get a 2.0L&K for same money as VW

Passat 1.9SE). Better handling than the VW too.

Saab - Running costs can be horrific and reliability isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Skoda is the way to go.
