What position of the steering wheel does your lock engage?

Featured Replies

Following reading a previous thread that said the lock should engage when the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position, I checked mine and found the lock engaged with the wheel turned about 30 degrees to the right.

The service history etc has no mention of front end suspension or steering work so I assume it was set this way at the factory.

Am I right? Where does yours engage?

Octy 1, but just a touch off straight ahead. Certainly not anything like 30 deg though.

Thanks. Yes my Octy 1 was like that so surprised my Octy 2 is different.

No problem; given the lack of other responses, from memory other cars I've driven (as well as Octy 1 and 2s, includes Austin, Citroen, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, and Vauxhall (all GM are hired or works pool cars) making 20some individuals would be 5 to 15 degrees left lock.

Straight ahead would not be beneficial IMHO, just in case the hand brake fails on a gradient.

I am glad that the lock is off set as it would guide the vehicle to the curb and hopefully arrest the movement.

? I use whole turns of lock towards kerbside if parking on a steep hill. 30 deg right there's an evens chance of taking the car out into the road.

To clarify I adjust the steering to facilitate it running to the curb as per KenONeill.

On the subject of steering wheels, 2009 VRS wheel.......it's impossible to give a wee chirp of the horn? It's all or nothing, any other car I've had you can tap the steering wheel centre and get the tiniest noise from the horn.

It's like the spring pressure is too much?  Anyone notice the same and can the switch be modified ?

John.
