Why does this EGR pipe keep breaking?

Featured Replies

Had the EGR pipe replaced by a local garage as it was split.

Couple of weeks on and I've just checked and its split again.

Is been noisy since the garage done it so wondering if they split it when installing

Any reason that they would split?

Before the garage replaced it for the first time they did the turbo so wondered if they split when doing this.

What's the reason for the corrugated bit? Seems to just make it weaker.

The corrugated section is a flexible section designed to combat vibration fractures, you're supposed to pull the pipe slightly to open the bellows before installing it so that the flexi section is compressed slightly, not under tension because it is stainless and will split.

Your garage used an idiot who installed it incorrectly.

Thanks. Just going to get another one and do it myself.

How far should you stretch them? These wernt stretched at all.

Currently.bodged.with exhaust tape to get me to work tomorrow.

Hate Sundays. If one good.motor shop opened they would make a killing on DIY trade. I always seem to have to invent bodies to last me until I can get back under.
