Question about possible missing brakelight/hatch trim/surround

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My car has come back from the repairers and I noticed something that may or may not look right.

In this photo of the rear hatch brake light, there seems to be a part missing ?  Like a trim that surrounds the brake light.

Can someone do me a favour and take a look at their MK2 Octavia RS face lift liftback (not wagon) and tell me if something is missing ?  I have removed and re-fitted that top trim of the hatch and everything fits snug so if something is missing, it's because it has been removed and not reinstalled ...

If you can take a similar photo for me and post it up, I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

Can anyone help :)

I've put some arrows on the photo to make it clearer what I am querying .. I would really appreciate it !

It's the area surrounding the rear hatch light on the inside of the car.

What has exactly been done? Looks like the light is set too far back

They had replaced the rear windscreen.

Hmm do you know how is the rear light installed ? I would have thought that it clipped or screwed into something on the hatch so it's not a matter of choosing where it sits hence it can't really be set back to far ?

Personally I would remove all the boot trim in that area. Look at how the light is fitted. This will also give you the opportunity to wiggle the boot lid trim also

Good idea but I'd just like to see a pic of another mk2 liftback RS car so I can compare it so I am not wasting my time taking it apart when it could be a part is missing ...

I can get a photo for you in the morning

Woohoo, that would be much appreciated!

I don't have mine anymore but I'm 100% sure that the metal bracket and the rivets were not visible from outside the car.

Either something is missing or it has been assembled incorrectly.

Had a look at my mates rs and I think you're right ... Doesn't seem anything is missing but the light may not be sitting in the right position? How can this be?!

Tried to take a photo yesterday but with the rain and poor light it didn't work. Had a good look at it. You can't see the metal on mine

yeah it was a bit hard taking a pic of my mates to compare today in the rain too ...

just looking at his car, i can't really tell why mine looks different and wtf the repairer has done ?!?  might need to coapare it side by side or just go back to the repairer and tell them to fix that **** up !

Attached an image of mine for you. Can't see any obvious metal so I suspect the trim might not be quite right.

Cheers not too sure how to go about fixing this!

Either way, I'll work it out. Merry Christmas!

I think you'll find they haven't seated the light properly.  Needs to be pushed in more (closer to the window).

Take it back in the New Year and make them fix it properly as you'll probably find the ham-fisted "technician" has probably broken a few clips & brackets.
