Warning Light Not Going Out

Featured Replies

I Have An O2 Octy Vrs

The Engine Light Is On (car Is Running Fine) But Light Keeps On Coming On After 3 Resets, First Time It Took A Week To Come Back On Now Its Within The Hour

The Code No Is 16985 P0601

What Is This ???

Garage Said I Need A New Ecu

Help Please

16985 = Internal control module memory check sum error. Having had a Haldex ECU changed for a similar reason, I wouldn't argue with their diagnosis.

Doohhhh!!!!!

Would Having 2 Yr Ago, A 7 Hour Apr Trial Degrade Ecu If It Was Never Re-activated

Or Would Having Ecu Wiped Clean With Complete New Program Work

Or How Much Did You Buy New Ecu For??

Mine was a Haldex ECU. I don't have access to an up-to-date ETKA. However there would appear to be 2 different ECUs depending on chassis number, and one if not both might well be available on exchange. New is circa £580 and exchange £362. You will need expert advice from others on the options for reflash.

And hello to the old-timers... :D

Have the same fault code on the 4x4 turbo... Engine warning light came on first time some six months ago, have had two resets but quick recurrences. It's now switched off again after the car had its 90k kms service yesterday, but it's still nagging me.

As yellowtaxi says: everything works fine. It looks like it's just a bug instead of a true failure. The dealer also says that we can simply drive on with the light on if we don't want to spend the walloping amount of £580 on a new ECU. There's nothing wrong with the car itself.

Dealer says they don't have a software update that cures the bug, but would someone like Jabba (or in my case their Dutch counterpart) be able to fix it without the need to replace the ECU?

Interesting, thanks. The Vortex link on the Ross-Tech page is a big thread to read through...

And a lot of it centers around the fear of losing their warranty and not wanting the dealer to know that they were chipped.

I have neither problem: the dealer sold me the chip with factory warranty, which by now has run out...

Anyway, the threads stops in 2005, with there apparently being only quick fixes at that moment in time. Does anyone know how it evolved after that?

I know that if you get a check sum error fault on an ECU at a dealer and follow our Guided Fault Finding procedures it will either tell you to replace the engine ECU or flash program it if possible.

So in theory a tuner tha does remapping may wel be able to upload a new code and thus refreshing the check sum tabes eradicating the fault.

Thanks, I was hoping to hear that... :D
