National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme

Featured Replies

Looks like another way to extract cash from drivers ?

Highways England is working with the National Police Chiefs’ Council and DfT to raise driver awareness of the need to comply with mandatory signs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of smart motorways.

A new National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) course is being developed specifically for motorway driving. This would give the police the ability to offer an educational alternative to issuing a fixed penalty notice and penalty points for offences only found on the motorway network, such as speeding when a variable speed limit is set and Red X offences.

Highways England’s strategy for improving Red X compliance focuses on increasing drivers’ understanding, including warning letters to non-compliant drivers containing information on how to use smart motorways safely.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

There are too many ar$eholes that are in the wrong lane at the wrong speed who drive with their rear fog lights on in all weathers, don't anticipate what is going on in front of them then change lanes 20 yards before the cones for a lane closure, when they've had over a mile of warning signs.

I have trouble with this article........

"Increasing penalty points for drivers who use a handheld phone at the wheel from three to four, with fines rising from £100 to £150 - a proposal announced by ministers on Sunday"

...since when did any minister work on a sunday? ;)

(Unless they can claim a duckhouse, dinner, 3 nights lodgings and overtime)

If it has the effect of increasing driver training, knowledge and competence then it's fine by me.

If they were simply in the cash extraction business, it would just be an increase for fines, with nothing in return!
