Octavia vRS possible exhaust manifold leak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm pretty new to this lovely community but owned a couple of 1.8T in the past (Leon Cupra/FR) and loved it. Now here is the issue that I'm having, when starting the car after the engine has been previously warm and left for a few minutes when accelerating I can hear a noise which sounds like the exhaust manifold is leaking. This only happens for a few minutes then it goes away. I know that the exhaust side of this k03s can develop cracks and in my case I'm thinking it's relatively small now and when the metal expands with heat it seals itself off. So what I'm actually asking is if anyone ever experienced this and how to correctly diagnose it without taking everything appart if possible. I've tried the "paper method" with no results.

Cheers,

Cristian

I had this problem, although it was all the time and the exhaust leak type of farting started as soon as the engine was switched on, regardless of temperature and was extremely noticeable inside the car when accelerating on boost. Luckily, it was only the gasket, which was cheap and didn't take long to do. I'd get a gasket ready and spend an hour or two replacing it. Nothing really needs removing. Just three bolts to drop the turbo downwards and you can slide the gasket in and out. It's just getting to those three bolts...
