Coolant top up

Featured Replies

Whilst checking the oil yesterday I noticed the coolant level was on min. Can I top up with distilled water or do I need to go and buy some coolant?

At the moment leave it at MIN and put none in.

Wait and see if it stays at Min.

(If not then ask at the Service Desk to have the Master Technician at the Dealership diagnose why.)

Then when you do top up if needs must use the correct ratio of Distilled & Coolant. (Pre Mix it.)

Some loss is acceptable over time, but it should not be losing fluid.

At the service the Technician will often top up to MAX, then the coolant finds its own level.

MIN & MAX is what shows.

If there was a 'FILL TO THIS LEVEL',  then that would be put on the Filler Bottle.

Thanks for the reply. I will monitor.

Hi Simon-R, did you speak with your dealer regarding this?

I had a low coolant warning on the maxidot display this morning on start-up and when I checked the header tank was empty, just a tiny bit of orange coolant visible at the bottom. The car is parked in the same place overnight and there is no puddle so presumably the water isn't leaking but is going somewhere it shouldn't. I can't recall ever having to top a car up with coolant.

Well I decided to call Skoda Assistance for advice and they sent a patrol out (AA). Water was added then the coolant system was pressure tested up to running temperature. No leaks found. I've been advised to keep an eye on it and if it loses coolant it'll need a trip to Skoda.

Just seen this, I monitored and it didnt move from the min mark so I got some coolant and topped up so the level was between max and min. The level hasnt changed in 14,000 miles.

Mine was topped up during its 1st service
