1.4tsi L & K Torque

Featured Replies

When I first started driving this new model the maxi-dot kept telling me to change to a higher gear, I did not believe it, I should have done. Now it has done 4,000 mls and the engine is starting to loosen up it will happily roll along at 1,000rpm  in 6th and accelerate slowly away. In 3rd gear at 800rpm [yes tick-over speed] it will accelerate away up an incline of about 1 in 20. After a 1.8tsi I am having to totally change my driving style. Very impressed.

Quite impressed with mine too although only done about 70 miles so far.

I totally ignored the maxidot change information on my previous Yeti as it was way wrong.

Sounds almost diesel-like. Is it more torquey than the 1.8? What does maxidot say your mpg is?

I've also gone from the previous generation 1.8 TSi engine (160ps & 250Nm) to the current generation 1.4 TSi engine (150ps & 250Nm) and the new engine is a lot more torquey at the bottom end of the rev counter. So far (2500 miles) I am very impressed with the 1.4.

Maxidot says 38mpg mixed local traffic, on a 8ml plus drive and 44mpg on A class roads 100mls distance. Not been able to do a long motorway journey yet, but should be in the 40's mpg somewhere.

Hi brianja138, I would appreciate and possible others who might be thinking about migrated from a 1.8tsi to a 1.4tsi, what you consider the differences to be, which you may list as pros and cons if you wish and what is the difference in driving style between the two.

Thanks,

Banjobach.

I think a lot of us would be interested in what mileage you get over 3-6 months of general mixed motoring. Do you measure "brim full to brim full" or use the maxidot readout?

My better half has no interest in, and knows nothing about cars - so her comments are worth quoting. After her first drive [approx 50mls mixed traffic, town and country roads] she said ' I love this new car, much easier to drive and so quiet, never got on with that old

gear change [ 6 speed manual] This is much smoother and nicer'

Since the 1.4 has much less rotating mass than the 1.8tsi it is perhaps a tad easier to stall but after a few drives it is no longer noticeable as you automatically give it a few extra revs. Otherwise performance is just the same.

Extra under bonnet room is a welcome bonus but oddly the engine is 'naked' no plastic cover plate and no 1.4tsi logo to be seen. Can other 1.4tsi owners please confirm or is mine a one off?

To sum up there is nothing I miss from the 1.8tsi, still a fine car but the 1.4tsi much better all round in my opinion.

Just been out to check and mine is the same. Black plastic cover to what I presume is the airbox at the front but no main cover and no logo.

Thanks GreenlineIIEstate - how strange.

It is the same on the mk3 Seat Leon, no plastic engine cover.

It's not a diesel - doesn't need it.

All my petrol engines recently have had a big plastic cover clipped to the top of the engine that I take is to suppress noise and perhaps direct under bonnet airflow.

But the owners haven't complained of engine noise.

Costing discipline and paring weight is paramount.

Cocked that one up with mine then for cost and weight.

I added a spare wheel, towbar, leccy seats, extra speakers, rear mud flaps, luggage net system and last but not least, heated washers.

That's not the 'listed' (get you in the door) price and the emission test is the base model I would expect.

A long while to wait for a new model in this competitive market......heroic almost.......it'd better be worth it.
