Front Disc and Pad Change

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be changing the front discs and pads on my estate tomorrow. I have read the Haynes manual and it says to change the caliper mounting bolts. Did you guys that have changed your own discs replace these bolts, and if so, where did you get them from?

Thanks!

You shouldn't need to change them as they wont be stretch bolts. Just get some loctite on them.

That should work, but the reason you're told to change them is that caliper bolts are pre-treated with a locking compound that isn't set harder and harder by heat.

The majority of pad kits come with pre treated bolts. They should be in the box.

But the bolts for holding the carrier to the hub may be different.

You can buy heat resistant loctite specifically for braking systems. I use it at work all the time.
