Average mileage to first clutch change?

Featured Replies

I have an estate1.8t 4x4 with 120.000km. It was upsolute chipped at 60.000km with a vRS map. Mainly urban driving. I am now like on a positive cashflow and I was thinkinking about investing in a new clutch - however no signs of problems now. Shall I wait untill i feel some clutch problems? How long can I drive the car after first feel them?

Another one: Is it ok to flush the engine when i change oil next time (never did it before) - do you recommend any specific product to do that?

Put your spare cash away (give it to a trustworthy friend or relative if you don't trust yourself) and do the clutch when it needs it. First signs will be slip or trouble engaging gears.

Do people bother flushing newer engines, I don't think so as modern oils leave far fewer deposits around the engine.

My Octavia has done over 80,000 miles on the original clutch. Jabba remap for the last 15,000 miles and no sign of trouble.

I've budgeted to replace it before 100,000 miles though

My 4x4 did about 45000 miles on the original clutch but is somewhat modded & gets used to the full. When mine first started slipping I had a couple of weeks before I could get it fixed & it was still driveable provided you didnt abuse it.

With that sort of mileage you are obviously light on the clutch & I would be tempted to try another std one when it goes provided you are not looking at modding the car more or using it harder.

A cheaper upgrade is to fit A corrado G60 Clutch & flywheel, cheaper than the fancy clutches but will take a lot more load. many firms including Jabba will fit one

mine lasted 4000 miles.

Changed mine at 18k as it was slipping badly. Now just over 90k and ready for another....

102K miles here (Jabba'd at 45K) and no sign of slipping yet... must. drive. harder. ;)
