Timing Belt & Water Pump, Haldex

Recommended Posts

Have a 4x4 Elegance estate on a 60 plate.

Cambelt due at 120k, is it advisable to have water pump done at same time?

Haldex is oil & filter change for 4x4 diff?  Not aware if this has been done before, so will there be any potential problem if this is first time?

Getting an occasional rocking movement in the car when it's stationary. Sign of loose propshaft or engine mountings?

I too would get the water pump done, especially at 120,000 miles.

The main dealers only charge another £100, an independent will be much cheaper so it's a no-brainer really.

The early GenII Haldex oil change was every 40,000 miles, this then changed to every three years on the later versions, regardless of mileage. Either way it sounds like your car is well overdue if it's never been done.

Either way it sounds like it's going to be an expensive service!

Is the car a manual or DSG, if DSG is the car in 'D', 'S', 'N' or 'P' when it rocks?

Skoda couldn't tell me whether or when the haldex on my 2014 will need changing so I've had them note this on my service history so if I'm left with an expensive bill I may have some comeback

Eh, really?

What did they say?

I can understand them having issues trying to determine if its been replaced in the past as this relies on their dealer network, but for them not to be able to tell you when their own recommended mileage / time is for changing the Haldex oil is ridiculous.

The information is widely documented for the different versions of Haldex used on the Octavia and Yeti.

Sounds like you got a duff customer service agent. I appreciate some people have more time than others but I'd be pursuing this further, if for nothing else than to satisfy my own curiosity at Skoda UK's incompetence!

That makes sense.

The earlier versions of Haldex such as the Gen2 on my 2008 Octavia Scout is mileage only (40,000 miles), when they facelifted the Octavia they upgraded the Haldex too, Gen4 I believe, and this was when they moved from mileage to time instead.

Hi Hawkeye, where abouts are you? I'm in Leicester and I used the Lion Garage who are VAG specialists! It cost me £381 to have the timing belt, timing belt kit, water pump, which should always be done as you'd regret it if you didnt, and haldex oil, it was all original VAG parts as pattern parts weren't available at the time, Skoda quoted me £350 just to do the cambelt, no water pump!

Lion Garages are East Midlands franchise with about 7 garages mostly in Leicestershire, can't fault them, especially the Leicester branch, always had top notch, reasonably priced work done by them.

Hope this helps.
