Power from battery into the compartment

Featured Replies

I would like to to connect cables with fuses directly to the battery in order to supply a communications radio.

But I cannot find a way to get the cables through the wall between the motor and the passenger compartment.

In all my other cars there have been a "hole" somwhere but I cannot find it in my Fabia.

Need more power than I can get from the lighter socket.

Make one.

For powering my subwoofer in the boot i ran a 12V feed through the rear washer tube grommet. Its on the passenger side (assuming UK RHD car) behind the glove box.

Pull down the noise insulation and there should be a 20mm wide grommet with a 6mm or there abouts black tube (for the rear screen wash) poke the wire with a screw driver through with the tube and it will come out behind the ABS pump in the engine bay

Or use the power that's already inside the cabin. Under the drivers side of the dash is the main power supply to everything it's only a few torx 15 screws to remove the dash corner and get access to it.

It's the terminal marked 30 for permanent live.

That's how I do it for most things

Many thanks Taylor93 and felicia16v! I will investigate when weather improves (unheated garage and -6 snowing outside just now :-))

Have a Fabialous 2016!

I've done the same to power my sub amp. It's a pretty easy job.

Just wondering what unit you are fitting. I considered fitting my Yaesu FT7100 dual band but it has up to 50w RF output and the Fabia handbook suggests 10w RF as max.( I suspect there may be  problems with RF affecting the canbus and ecu) so I'm on hold with it at the moment.

Mount the antenna on the back of the car and you shouldn't have any issues with it. I keep my radio near the handbrake lever and the aerial has a solid mount on the top of the boot lid. Although, as far as I know, cars are built as a Faraday cage so it should be just fine even with the antenna on the top of the car.

It is a very small duobander, a Leixen VV-898, max 10W. Duoband mag mount antenna on the left top side of the windscreen, easy to just put inside the compartment when washing the car. Been running it from a small 12v Lithium Ion battery without any problem.
