Car Devalued by insurance claim? Can I claim against other party insurer

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm aware this has probably been discussed before but I didn't find it after a quick look.

My month-old car was damaged in a (non fault) collision. Other insurers accepting liability.

I'm now are it's not a Cat D claim, but as a repaired vehicle is ut both worth less to sell and less in the event of an insurance write-off?

Damage in the grand scheme of things quite minor, but to a buyer it's still devalued?

Can I reclaim this from the other party's insurer and is there any cast iron advice out there?

If the damage is only minor, chances are it will not be written off as a Category D, but simply repaired and returned to you.

A minor repair by the insurance is not the same as a Category D write-off.

Ah, thanks for that. I'd misunderstood.

Is an insurance-repaired car recorded anywhere in it's history?

Would it be expected to reduce vehicle value? and so the same apply about insurance covering it as an expense?

Vehicles new from the Factory in Transit can be damaged, and damaged while sitting at a Dealers, they may be repaired and the buyer never knows.

If your car was a Cat-D and there was to be any loss in future value then talk with a Loss Adjuster about getting a good Deal for you with the Insurance Underwriter.

If you damage is so minor and the repair is to the Correct Factory / Showroom Standard, or in the case with a Skoda / VW maybe better than Factory Standard there should be no issue really.

No, an insurance repaired car is not recorded anywhere so value will be unaffected unless the repair is of substandard quality.
