Swapping Milltek for standard exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have recently become the owner of a VRS (I shall make a thread in projects soon) which has, among other things, a full Miltek turbo back system.

On my drive home I noticed it was a little droney, only a little, nothing like my previous Clio 197 with a Scorpion, but you could certainly hear it was there.

Now I am thinking I may take it off and revert to a standard cat-back system (retaining the Milltek decat/downpipe). I have no desire for the extra noise at all as I have a very noisy Honda in the garage to tick that box, but would the standard exhaust actually be any quieter on a cruise?

The second question is will it limit the power at all? It has a few other mods and will be receiving an uprated turbo of some sort (most likely a PD150 unit), so it may sway my decision if it is worth some extra horses!

Please discuss!

Many thanks, Rob

Nope, no difference to performance at all, only the 'placebo' effect of the extra noise.

Standard exhuast is as quiet as a mouse and is actually a pretty good exhaust as standard.

This is good news, will I notice much of a difference in volume even retaining the Milltek downpipe?

Funny,as the miltek uses a massive back box and is very quiet.

Have a look under the rear end and see if the silencer is still fitted, could be some chav/muppet/bodger has cut it out and made it straight through..........

I will check but I doubt this is the case. It's not what I'd call loud in any way shape or form, just a bit louder, or rather more boomy, than I would have thought a standard one would be. Having not driven the car with a standard one fitted it's very hard to draw a comparison!

I had a miltek on mine when I bought it,turbo back.

Was very quiet and in no way boomy cruising at all.

I've now got the smallest back box long life sell, circa 4inch diameter x 8 inches long and even now running 2.5bar of boost and the 2260 turbo it's only noisey on WOT when it's on full boost,cruising/normal driving is virtually silent :)
