Skoda paintwork warranty?

Featured Replies

Some people have been successful and others haven't. There was a thread up and running gathering names so someone could do a joint complaint but it died off.

Pop to your local Skoda dealership and see how it goes I suppose. I've got a tiny patch of bubbling on the passenger side sill near the back arch..

The worst they can say is no.

Yes it exists. Take it to your nearest dealer asap, they should take pics and do a report to Skoda. But be prepared, on arches they might say stonechips and as the spoiler is not rust, they might tell you to beggar off with that also.

worth a punt for nowt. however, make a note of who you speak to and when and chase up. I didn't and mine never made it to Skoda, checked up later than i should have and they basically said we have no record of it-go away.

Thats was me - was specifically to do with the spoiler lacquer issue - Skoda told us to bugger off.

I've heard almost all of us suffer from the laqure on the spoiler, mines real bad.i then have random laqure blisters and on the arches just a bit of rust etc.

Handbook states:

Paintwork and body warranty

In addition to the warranty terms for new Skoda vehicles - as stated in the Contract of sale - Skoda authorised dealer furthermore warrants that the vehicle sold by him shall:

- 3 year warranty for Paintwork defects

- 10 year warranty for perforation corrosion of the bodywork

Should damage of this type nevertheless occur, it shall be repaired free of charge by any authorised Skoda Service partner.

Warranty does not relate too:

- Such damages, which result from external factors or inadequate care.

- Damage to the bodywork and to the Paintwork, which was not repaired promptly and professionaly in accordance with manufactures instructions and using skoda original parts

- Perforation corrosion which was caused by the use of non-skoda original parts as well as by use of other technologies or repaired professionally in accordance with manufactures instructions.

Meh, not even going to try to watch them worn out of it, thanks anyway.

I'm gonna pop to my local dealership tomorrow so will update this thread with what they say.

Suppose I best clean it before I take it.

If you even have one paint bubble that hasn't broken the lacquer sure you could claim for it all. Its worth a punt at the end of the day, costs you nothing but time.

Let us know

I've got a couple of random blisters at the top edges of my window seals and already tackled major bubbling at the top of the rear lights and top of number plate-boot open latch. grrr   (but I blame the previous coilovers)... the ride was hard as ****

I've heard of people with rust around the number plate having it sorted, get it taken in!

It's not ''rust perforation defect'' so out of 3 years paint defects warranty and not bad enough for the 10 year one....nearly 9 years old car :((

i plan on taking my car to the local dealership later this month to have the tailgate perforations looked at and repaired

I'll update with how i get on

Mine has full Local dealership service history, since it was purchased new, so cant see them saying no to me really.

However, my paintwork is immaculate, not one piece of rust or peel on the spoiler, even the boot lid is fine.

Had my drivers door replaced and painted last year, was bubbling bottom edge. Main dealers preston sorted it.

However I've noticed yesterday some quite serious looking bubbling / rust around the hatchback hinges.

Anyone else looked in this area?

Obviously need to look with the hatchback open!!

Right guys - quick update.

I took the girl to my local Skoda dealership this morning.. it's actually owned by the furrows group, so it's a Ford dealership with franchise rights.

Popped into see the service department and she was busy - so had opportunity to look around the shiny new Skoda's in the showroom. New fabias vile..

Anyway. Got to see the service department.. she told me due to them being a Ford dealership, they only deal with Sales and service, and have nothing to do with Warranty, Paintwork or bodywork.

However - there was a VW group approved Repair centre in a small town 5 miles down the road - and it was on my way home.. top banana!

Got there, had a chap look over the work.. both my rear sills at the Base of the wheel arch are bubbling.. ones only just started - one has been for a while.. there's a pinhead of rust I noticed after washing it this morning.

Basically told me that while they are VAG approved repair shop - they aren't the guys that approve any warranty work. That has to be Skoda themselves - and that has to be started through my local service centre - which is the dealership I've just come from.

Anyway - fair play to the chap. He rings the Furrows group HQ in Telford, and speaks to there warranty chap, who informs hin/me that the place I had been to originally this morning - would be the place to start the warranty work.

Name and Appointment booked for tomorrow morning.. Apparently they get some photos together and pop it off to skoda UK who make the decision on whether it is to be covered by warranty or not.

I've been told to expect no to the answer - as the repair centre have seen cases like this on VW group cars, and they usually riffle out of it by saying the rear wheel over time kicks up stones that chip the lacquer and then cause damage and rust.. hence it's not a defect.

However - on the one side (the side that's bubbling), there is no sign of perforation of the lacquer, and no rust - just bubbling, and he commented that that looked like a defect.. and therefore as it's started to do so on the other side - it could be argued it's poor workmanship.

I'm tired of the bs already.

I'll update tomorrow with any new info.

Yeah I'm way too impatient for that, good luck getting yours done though!

i relish a challenge like that. My last crusade was with Chisholm Hunter and i won. Before that it was Evans Halshaw.... and we won  :D

I had a vw passatt 130 highline estate and the front arches started to bubble. They were rectified through vw. They started to rust again so were rectified once more. They started to rust again !!!!!!!! several months later but some mong smashed into it and wrote it off so that was the end of that. I had a 5 year old  mk 5 golf gti and guess what !!! the front arches started to bubble. New arches were fitted under warranty along with the sills being resprayed !! I loved this car but sold it for good money. I then got an Audi A3 Quattro s-line 2 litre turbo. Guess what ? the arches started to bubble so I got rid. Can anyone see a pattern emerging? I then found myself with my little black furby vrs. I hope to god the chew dosn't start all over again. I really can't be bothered. I was thinking it was a VW/Audi thing but I could be wrong.
