Farewell X3......

Featured Replies

...hello X3. ;)

I know it's an understatement that the X3 polarises opinion but I have really grown to like our 2.0 diesel that we bought it in March. Nippy enough, space for the kids and associated paraphernalia, wife loves it and given what it is, it handles amazingly - the downside is that it does have a harsh ride. Finally, I found a car that I can keep for a little bit longer than usual.

Until.......

.....I read that the 3.0d was X3 bound. Went to the dealer, for a look you understand, test drove it - great engine, waaay better than I had in my 330d, came home and did the yearly ritual of 'doing the sums'. Decided on a plain upgrade, nothing fancy, and went to the dealer. Unfortunately, they had an black MSport version there, all dolled up, colour-coded bumpers (I know, I know - it's a terrible *******isation of the MSport name/heritage) and it really looked the part. Damn! I hadn't planned on seeing that. Bang go my calculations.

I get my black X3 MSport next Friday. :D

The new Octavia vRS will come at some point, probably as my daily driver in a couple of years (2nd hand).

I'll run the Beemer in for a while before I get AMD/DMS to give it a little extra 'oomph'. ;) Apparently, 260bhp is straightforward.

:)

Pimp!

Did you not consider the X5 then?

I must be honest either the X3 or X5 would be my BMW of choice these days, 4x4's do grow on you ;-)

I was offered a 3.0d X5 at a very juicy discount - almost unheard of a year or so ago, and therein lies the problem. It's going to be replaced soonish - a year or so - and you can already see things like discounts, residuals slightly slipping etc. TBH, the X5 is too big for my wife whilst the X3 is extremely car-like in its character. The boot of the x5 is pitifully small, too.

I wasn't overly enthused when we bought the X3 but it has really grown on me - a very accomplished car that, for us, ticks all the right boxes.

For now. ;)

Jeremy wasn't keen on it though!

That's enough of a recommendation for me to go buy one :D

Nice choice Huck

LOL!

Thanks, Jon! :)

osunds good and probably a bit of a sleeper as who would expect a diesel 4x4 to move like that undoubtedly will :)

Oooh nice, get some pics of that when it arrives

Wasn't a major fan of the X3 when it arrived, still some of Bangle evident in its design for my tastes, but the Sport version will look good I imagine! And with that cracking engine, plus a little AMD-ness.... hmmm

All to our own i guess

But in my opinion .... :orb_duh:

You can spend the same amount of money on a Toyota Land Cruiser and totally own the roads, both on and off. I have never felt more like a king on the road than behind the wheel of a Land Cruiser.

Problem with a Land Cruiser is that it might well be the king of the road, it just doesn't go round them very well :)

It's a large 4x4 and it certainly feels like it when you corner...

I could spend the same amount of money, or more, and get a car that I like but my wife hates. This one has all the correct attributes for us.

Well, it's here and i love it! Superb torque(369lb/ft) and, to my mind, feels better built as well. Quicker by a considerable margin than my old 330d.(184) The ride is definitely less harsh than the previous one although there is no official word that anything has been done. Methinks there has been some quiet tinkering in the background at BMW.

Looks a ton better IMO than my previous black bumpered one and it looks fairly aggressive from some angles.

Very, very happy. :)

Getting a Hartge Motronic Unit fitted next month - takes power to 260 and torque to 405lb/ft!

looks great Huck! If youre bored one night you will have to take me for a spin!

Actually have you had the chance to drive one?? Take it round a corner and it is very wallowy but the bloody thing would never flip even if you tried!!!! It's the most popular 4x4 here, and most of them fit those ugly jumbo balloon tyres over 15" rims for desert runs...

Huck...I personally have never liked the X3 and never will...

...but yours is the first hot X3 I have ever seen! It's so shiny all over too! Nice one man, congrats!

Thanks, Mil! :)

Fancy bluetooth as well? Friend says his X3 bluetooth kit recognises 6 phones:eek: How many phones can a man have!

Enjoy the car.Sounds like it has some oomph:)

As an aside, most Bluetooth car kits can accept upto 8 different 'pairings', just not at the same time :)

Glad you're pleased with it Huck, looks the business, sounds like it goes well too. And the Hartge upgrade should round things off nicely
