Possible faulty MAP sensor

Featured Replies

Hello hope someone could shed some light on my problem. Started off with MAP sensor code on eml light and also the EPC light illuminated. Now it seems to be throwing all different sensir codes out including knock sensor, 02 sensor and camshaft position sensor. Any ideas pls

Clear them all and charge the battery.

It is driving bad though quite lumpy on acceleration

Inalso did clear originally but come back

Fully charge the battery, re-adapt the throttle body and EGR valve, then clear everything again and take it for a nice long drive to clear it out, motorway speeds to cook up the cat properly.

How old is the car and how many miles?

2001 only done 60k miles, had the egr valve done 18 months ago and light came bk on after 3 months took it bk and had it cleaned but garage said it didn't even need cleaning was fine. Then had an issue with lamda sensor codes but they kept disappearing. One other thing I've noticed is since this light coming on sometimes when driving at speeds 40mph the revs will suddenly drol and car feels like a jerk but then picks up speed again and carries on

You need to run the car on super plus unleaded only, these cars don't like ordinary unleaded and they give a lot of problems due to cheap fuel and short journeys, I suspected the mileage would be very low, and I very strongly suspect the inlet and exhaust system are heavily choked with deposits, you need to get the car good and hot on a long run to burn these deposits off, use only super plus fuel once you have fully charged the battery and cleared and reset the ECU.

OK so now car is dead lol. Went to shop earlier and was OK still eml.lights but drivable. Came back out started engine starts fine but as soon as revs drop engine stalls managed to get home just by constantly keeping the rev count high second I had to brake or slow down the engine would just cut out

Do you have VCDS? If so, please copy/paste a complete rundown of all faults found. Sounds like throttle adaptation has now been lost as well.

I only have a basic code reader but the codes it has given since resetting just before car died are 17566 16726 and 17851

Have the cambelts ever been replaced? I'm starting to suspect a partial cambelt failure.

I'm thinking of an issue with the TB, just a gut feeling but it needs diagnosis. Shouldn't be too difficult to find if it's not failed quite badly.

Only thing I can see in the service manual.is a timing belt replacement at 28k

Afternoon all, thought I would drop by and give you an update (all be it a long one haha). Car went into the garage had a new MAP sensor fitted all ok then after an hour same thing happened again. Took it back and got throttle body cleaned etc and still no better. Next day mechanic made his way through the sensors which were covered in water cleaned them all down and dried it out and cleaned the egr valve out which also had water in. Car drove fine for 2 days all be it EML came back on with EGR valve excessive flow code but drove ok. Then out of the blue Friday morning went out and started car and same things happening again stalling once revs drop, have since noticed though that once the engine has warmed this cutting out stops, does idle uneven but runs ok. Saturday morning went out and the thing wouldnt even start had to bump it to get it going and then again once warmed drove ok. Revs did dip whilst driving twice but picked up again straight away and didnt manage to cut out. Left the car for 7 hours while at work, got in the car to come home and had to bump start it again, although this time the noise from the engine was awful sounded like the engine was going to explode. Managed to get the engine to bite with foot to the floor on the exhaust pedal, loads of spluttering and noise from the car but the car would not rev at all then all of a sudden after about 15 secs the revs shot up and car idled ok and managed to drive it to the garage ready to be looked at tomorrow. Ever since the MAP was replaced though the only Fault codes I am geting is EGR excessive flow and knock sensor. I had the EGR replaced 18 months ago and has aldo been cleaned out 3 times since. Looking at posts on the internet though nothing really seems to point out that the EGR would cause my car not to start from cold?? Is this true. Thank u in adavnce

also to add Ive had the AA out this weekend to check may battery is fully charged and to replace it if not but it all seemed ok

Have you had the cambelt checked ? These are prone to tensioner and idler failures.

When the egr was cleaned did they make sure the pipe into the manifold was clear?

I would get the cambelt checked ASAP tho as a failure there means big £'s

Cambelt is OK

Definitely replace the ECT sensor, they are rubbish and don't last long anyway so buy genuine if possible.

Well we have gotten a bit closer to the problem mechanic has had to remove the whole engine wiring loom as water had leaked into it. Have been trying to search online to see if this problem can cause my symptoms but cant seem to find anything yet
