Venting a petrol fabia fuel tank, is it that bad?

Featured Replies

"Dangerous" but "not bad"? Go figure.

I know how venting is recommended on here, but not everybody uses a forum. A Fabia is a car that people with hardly any interest in cars could buy. They could vent without even knowing. They just put the nozzle in the tank at an angle without thinking. Why would they think about it? Skodas never given any users any literature on it?

The average motorist "with hardly any interest in cars" still reads the User's Manual from cover to cover?

Actually yes many do, often of the female gender.

Have you had your finger in a filler flap recently or looked at the venting slide ?

Ive read it before. Not saying a learnt a great deal, but the odd thing was of interest.

Venting not mentioned.

My manual ( 2012 ) says:

" The fuel tank is full just as soon as the pump nozzle switches off for the first time, provided the nozzle has been operated properly. Do not continue refuelling- otherwise the expansion volume is filled up. "

So.  a Warning.

2010 Fabia Owners Manual.

Caution

'Make sure the valve is not pressed into the filler tube when inserting the pump nozzle into the filler tube.

Otherwise you are unintentionally filling up the volume.

which in the case of heat can cause an expansion of the fuel.

This can lead to an overflow of fuel or damage to parts of the fuel reservoir.'

'The fuel tank is full as etc etc as in post #29

Ah okay! Doesnt say that in mine!

You could still fill the expansion volume and stop filling at first click if the nozzle is on the lever, mind.
