engine revs not dropping

Featured Replies

Hi all the engine revs on my Fun are slow to decrease after you come off of the throttle would this be the throttle body?

All help appreciated. Robert

What makes you think it is throttle body related? Did you mess with it?

By the way, how did the fault start to happen? Out of the blue?

Started off by not going " on choke " when cold. That was about 2 weeks ago. Last Friday as I was going home it kept cutting out at junctions, then the revs took time to die down when you came off of the throttle. Took plastic cover off to the butterfly that is conected to throttle cable. Cleaned housing up as dirty inside and I thought a carbon build up may be stopping butterfly closing. It ran fine for a couple of days but is doing the same again.

Do you have access to a VAG-COM scanner for checking the error codes stored by computer?

Disconnect the coolant temp. sensor (on thermostat housing) before cold starting the engine. Start the engine. and let it run for 20 seconds. Does the engine have a rapid idle corresponding to "on choke" start ? Stop the engine. Reconnect the sensor. Start the engine. What idle has the engine now ?

No access to scanner. Car ok today. Will unplug sensor next time it plays up.

New addition to the problem. Sitting in car with engine running. Up to operating temperature according to gauge. Can't get the engine to rev between 1000 and 2000 rpm. No matter how lightly you tickle the throttle it just shoots to 2000rpm. You can pick any rev between 2000 and 3000 rpm.

Ok just turned engine off then restarted and everything is good. Engine responds to throttle like it should do....

I think you should add the throttle position potentiometer on your check list too.

Sounds like the throttle body needs resetting with vcds now.
