Apparently most people go for the 1.9 estate' date=' hence the lact of 2's around to test[/quote']

probably because those buying estaes want a sensible, cost effecient, load lugger, not a machine built for a blast down a country lane (the 2.0) - I think that sums up the difference between the 1.9 and 2.0 - the 1.9 will do it all, but the 2.0 will do it will adrenalin.

Ah well, perhaps i like to be different!

Got on the phone to skoda today, said they could only give me dealership numbers, which i could have looked up on the website anyway! No 2.0 DSGs to test drive anywhere in Essex, Kent, London and East Anglia!

How aptly put

I was in a similar situation, although I didn't want an estate. Ordered mine over 12 months ago and even then managed a test drive in the 2.0TDi, Garage let me have it all afternoon well 13:00 - 17:00.

Mine is used as a Company Car doing 30K a year, but I get a Car Allowance which pays the loan off over 3 Years and it's mine to keep, modify do with as I please. Raod Tax is only

There is only a price difference of 1000 euro between the 1.9 and the 2.0 here in belgium. If I had the funds available, I would certainly go for the 2.0, as it is much much much more fun to drive, and a bit more silent as well (I hear). I drove a 2.0 TDI passat, which was much more powerfull than my octy II 1.9TDI :/

Also : if you do a lot of motorway miles -> that 6th gear might come in handy.

thanks!

Well i've had my resubmitted quotes back, had the mileage reduced on as it was excessive and the 2.0 DSG now comes in at 6.40 a month over my allowance. I did stress to my boss how important it was given my allergy to my mondeo!! So i should hear back from him in the morning.

Good luck with it

2.0TDi Elegance with DSG and whatever options you can fit into the monthly allowance would be the way I'd go myself....

Hi, I'm in a similar position to Fabster except I'm already driving a Octavia Elegance estate MK1 1.9 TDI - great car relaible economical etc etc

So thinking at 100,000 miles maybe time for a new one. Being wary of new things ... how reliable is the DSG gearbox ?

Anyone know where I can get a personal lease thingy for 35,000 pa - 100,000 over 3 years ?

My local dealer tells me they're having trouble getting Skoda's with diesel engines - they have no demonstrator at the moment and can get one before end of Jan - so test driving seems to be a bit of a problem.

When I bought my prsent one and was 'phoning around for a test drive one of the best offers I had was that I could sit in one in the showroom - I didn't buy form him !

For what it's worth, when I was doing my test drives I drove a 1.9DSG and 2.0 Manual. 1.9DSG is still a 6 speeder (so you gain a gear over the 1.9 manual) and it's a perfectly capable car.

However........

2.0 is a stormer! I probably could have lived with a 1.9 but I'd always have felt like I'd got second best having driven the 2.0. I'd go 2.0DSG if you possibly can. If not then drop to the 1.9 and keep the DSG.

Well i got what i wanted in the end, 2.0 TDI DSG, confirmed it today in a Graphite Grey, allowance wont allow for extras but i guess i have pushed my luck enough stretching my allowance anyway. Now the waiting begins.....

Good for you. I reckon if you want something badly enough a way can usually be found to get it. I've proved that a fair few times:juggle:
