Tuning box query

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been running a TDI Tuning box on my 208 GTI for a few months now and just wondered if I could gauge the thoughts/experiences of others who have of are running them.

I've gradually increased to the top setting but have noticed that even on the lower settings the car has been a bit 'smokier' and having run it for a few months (with no fault lights ect) the exhaust is really black with 'soot'.

car is on 13,500 miles (2000 of which with the box).

Just wondering how much discolouring there would be anyhow on the exhaust of a performance petrol car after 13000 miles and I'm running on the assumption that the Cars electronics would cut in if there were any real issues?

Thoughts would really be appreciated.

No smoke, no poke... as the saying goes.

The more you push diesel on the power the more black stuff need to leave out the back. Odds of there being an issue are relatively slim at that low a mileage, as you said your slowly using the higher setting on the box which is going to generate more go, so more exhaust thus blackened exhausts.

its a maek of hinour among the the diesel modifiers (some not all) to have that big black wasteland mark up the boot from the exhaust...

Appreciate the reply.

Mines a petrol though but I assume the same applies?

Are you running the car on Super Unleaded 97 ron, or 99 ron Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power Nitro +  ?

Tesco momentum

Ah fair enough, i assmed when you said it was a tdi box your running a diesel :) the mobile skin is limited in info so car spec isnt visible under your avatar.

is it a lot of black smoke when you get your foot down? Or is it a contant flow of smoke at all times?

Just for a few minutes until the engine has warmed up. Not noticed much once warmed up (even if I'm putting my foot down a bit). Prob been more noticeable over the last few weeks with the temp drop.

It was just how black the exhaust was that alarmed me a bit!

I really wouldnt be worried about blackening around the exgaust, could be just by heat. Alsi if its only during warm up time id not worry too much , just monitor it and see if you notice it getting worse over the next couple of weeks.

Tey and park on level enough ground at night you can and dip the oil every couple of days, see if its using much, just in case theres any seepimg through a seal into the turbo/cylinders/ exhaust system that burni g off on start up..
