Head unit change to Bolero infotainment unit.

Featured Replies

I/we (swmbo) are looking to buy a mk2 Fabia, the one we'll probably go with has the Dance 2 head unit atm, does anybody know if it can be change for a Bolero unit (one with the cd slot).

You can, or go the whole way and get the better Columbus.

Either should plug and play.

I do have a DAB Columbus for sale ;):D.

Cheers for the prompt answer.

I haven't got the car yet, but I will bear you in mind.

No worries.

Whichever you go for it should work as soon as you plug it in, but might need VCDS to get the best of it.

Especially if you've got Maxidot. VCDS is needed so you get the Nav and Audio text on the display.

Also sound settings are changeable in VCDS which arent accessible on the unit itself (:

Butchvrs, have you still got the Columbus unit for sale?

Butchvrs, have you still got the Columbus unit for sale?

Assuming you mean me?

No it sold ages ago. Sorry :)

Thanks Fabiamk2SE,

I bought a unit yesterday on eBay and take delivery on Tuesday. I have Swing unit in wife's car and hope it will be a straight swap and that the existing surround will fit. I will need to get someone in Northern Ireland to do the VCDS programming for me, as it would be good to get as many features working as possible. The car has a nice little MFD which I assume will display Nav and music info. It also has electronic AC system, but not sure if that will work.

Thanks

The MFD with green display wont do nav and music.

The maxidot display will. This had a black background with white writting

Thanks for the info. It's white lettering on black background and says MFD. I had a colour Maxidot in my Octy VRs, so can't compare if same. All I need is someone local in NI to help with the VCDS coding. I couldn't get anywhere with the list on this site, it doesn't link to people.

ah yes. It will do directions then, music and the rest of it. The white on black Maxidot is as good as it gets in the Fabia. Must be nice to have a colour one mind haa.

Yeah i cant help with the location thing unfortunately. However Fubar is a in NI. Maybe he's worth a message to see if he knows anybody? He's a sound bloke so will help if he can im sure.

I installed the unit today after receiving it by DHL. It was a piece of cake to fit, although, I eventually had to put the GPS aerial on top of the dash, as it would not read correctly underneath it. Everything works a treat. Sound is better than Swing unit.

Phone works great as well. The only thing that does. It work is Nav instructions on MFD display, but guess this is a VCDS issue.

The unit was bought off eBay and was in mint condition, with original Radio code card and all warranty strips intact. Very pleased with the unit and the fit. It was literally a 20 min job.

I will try and locate Fubar and see if I can get the MFD working on Nav.

Thanks for your help Fabiamk2SE
