Filling out v5c for self dismantled vehicle

Featured Replies

So like the topic title says, how would I go about filling out the v5c for a vehicle that I had broken down into spares myself.

Usually the person collecting the shell will have the ability (when they get the shell scrapped) to get a destruction certificate. :)

All I can say from personal experience is the scrap metal man fills in the top yellow bit as having "bought" (I never get anything) the shell. and then he will get it DVLA notified at the point of destruction of the chassis.

Hope that helps.

Isn't there abit on bottom of logbook that allows you to do it yourself,

Ive done it in past and will have a couple more to do soon,

Ones actually already been scrapped and ive not got logbook for it yet,

I generally get whoever takes the shell to do it, make sure they leave part of the logbook with at least "an address" on. A sly photo of it on their truck's never a bad idea.

I know my scrap man as he's a client of work - plus doing it myself isn't an option.  I have no way to get a shell to a metal merchant myself.  The roof bars on the mongrel aren't really strong enough :D

Angle grinder, then take it in bits.

When a chap in a lorry can pick it up with a crane and dispose in one piece, I am not going to waste my cutting discs :D  I have a poxy Lidl grinder anyway :D
