Rolling noise

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone can help...

Have a 2006 fabia Vrs which has done nearly 160,000 miles. When slowing down say to a set of traffic lights, if I put it into neutral and let it roll up to a stop as the speed decreases I've got a horrible rattling type noise but if I leave it in gear and come to a stop it doesn't happen. It sounds like to me a kind of flywheel type noise but just had Sachs flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate and csc bearing replaced about 5,000 miles ago so it can't be flywheel related.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like a gearbox problem to me.

does the rattle get slower and stop when you get to the lights or does it keep going even when the car is stationary?

If it is confirmed as a gearbox I have a spare one going for reasonably cheap ;)

It doesn't get slower it sounds like I'm driving over gravel and yes it stops as soon as I'm stationary. Had a gearbox specialist have a look and he says it's the free wheeling where no gear is selected and more likely main shaft play
