All lights working bulb warning symbol

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just bought a 2013 1.6 greenline superb,

It's only a S model so no menu display etc, I have the bulb warning light on in the dash, checked every bulb all working as required, including reg plate, only thing I've noticed is the bulbs for brake lights are normal 501 side light bulbs, would this cause the warning message I've read here that they should be w16w 955, would this be the issue, off topic start/stop works very odd time and lastly rear parking sensors when reverse is selected 1st time after start up get a loud beep for 3-5 secs but doesn't pick up when backing up to an object.

Many thanks Gerard

yes vag group cars are very picky on bulbs also you will need vcds to clear error codes after the bulbs have been changed.

If the w16ws have been replaced with w5w then yes, that will throw a warning.

Some ideas:

Front daylight driving lights bulb socket might be corroded or have some burning marks causing bad connection.

Outside mirrors turn signal lights: One of the led-s might be broken.

Just bad/old bulb, the glass can be darkened to show it.

Thanks for replying folks ill spend an hour this afternoon and remove every bulb and check for black on bulbs and replace as required, 1st thing I'll do is change the brake bulb from w5w (501) to w16w (955), indicators on mirrors working fine drl new bulbs and can't see corrosion on connection's

I think you have found your issue, no way should the brake light bulbs be W5W, as pointed out they should be W16W.

What was the previous owner thinking? I never understand how someone can't cross check the old bulb with the new bulb. Did they not wonder why the blown-bulb warning was still lit after they'd replaced the bulbs, or perhaps why the light output was less than a third of what it should be when testing them?

There are W5W bulbs used in the rear light clusters, three to be precise.

The highest bulb is brake / tail - W16W.

The remaining three other bulbs are all W5W and form the unique Skoda 'C' shape.
