Engine revs increase & car accelerates when i press the brake pedal.

Featured Replies

Today when i left work & pulled up to the exit my car didnt want to stop,it felt like i was pressing both the brake pedal & the accelerator at the same time,it was fine for the rest of the day, later on when i was sitting in traffic i pressed the brake pedal & up went the engine revs,my foot was not near the accelerator pedal, has anybody else ever had this problem occur on their octavia? mine is a 2008 manual petrol vrs. Thanks Mike.

Only when I have been wearing my big soled boots and have been pressing the accelerator at the same time.

I am more careful now when driving with said boots on, Lol.

I had my work boots on & wondered that when it happened the first time, but i have had the car for over 5 years & 60000 miles & wear work boots everyday driving it during the week & its never happened until today & when i was waiting i traffic i pressed the brake pedal to see if it would happen it did & my foot was nowhere near the accelerator...very weird...  :D

Don't know about the petrol cars, but certainly in my diesel if you press both brake and throttle together, the car only brakes and cuts the throttle.

So I can't press both together and if it happened would suggested a sensor or switch somewhere was playing up.

I have a 1.9pd on an 09 plate.

Yeah its the same on the petrol cars,i once tried some left foot braking to clear the rust off my brake disc's....i wont try that again.. :D im thinking a faulty sensor or switch on the brake pedal or wiring issue,i will have a look when i have some free time.

Extremely small vacuum leak from the brake booster?.  It will cause an lean mixture & the ECU pumps a bit more fuel in to compensate.

It's a long shot.  I've only come across it once and that was a carby fed engine back in 1983.

The car has behaved fine since that day & shows no sign of the original problem,i will monitor it.
