Anyone updated MFD1?

Featured Replies

Just seing if anyone has updated the software?

I've had a google about but most threads are from 2003! :D

Just checking incase anyone in the know... Knows how to update them and how easy it is.

No, you're basically stuck with that software.

You can get map updates though.

But just do yourself a favour and get a Kenwood DNX which has the built-in Garmin navigation and that's exactly the same as a proper, modern, windscreen mounted sat nav.

Thats a shame, not that it gets used much... Ive seen people update them and change the pictures on start up and colours etc...

Not that i want to do that but maybe update the search options.

Ive got the latest Maps disc available which is 2013 so thats fine i suppose!

Dont like aftermarket headunits, had a quick google and look at the kenwood and dont like the look of it.

I'm with WJA on this, although its entirely personal choice

Surely a nav is all about functionality, ie. why prefer to run a far older and more basic satnav with 3 year old maps doesnt make sense - form over function ?

Mine was a cheapy Pioneer AVICF710BT that was all of £80ish because the person selling it on ebay thought it was more faulty that it was, but it was just FM portion ( I used a dab external feed anyway ).

Even has BT function fully working, though when selling they thought it wasn't ( I used it for calls in that car, handsfree no problem) hence my bargain.

Its a really good unit actually, well pleased with it and despite being almost 10 years old (not as old as MFD design though) works really well and you can do a lot with updating it, maps etc.

You could still sell the MFD for good money and open mind to other options if you can get over the form side of things ? I like the Pioneer in my Fabia and doesn't look far out of place, as if they would have offered it as an option if they could. Maybe some dealers even did for those without maxidot.

I do have the equivalent of MFD in my OCTIII vRS though, but if I'm honest I don't really pay a lot of attention to the dash/display side of the navigation instructions (not consciously anyway) so don't really see much benefit of it being integrated direct to the dash/maxidot etc. Tend to hear the instructions more and if I really need to look down and see how far the turning is coming up in 3d etc.
