Powder coating alloy wheels

Featured Replies

Hi

Ive been looking at refurbishing / powder coating

contacted a company that does stove enamaling as recomended by PJGoose69 (thank you)

i dont know much aabout stove enamaling (or anything actually)

but it sounds better than powder coating

does anybody know anything about it ?

and part of the process is they fist shot blast the wheels to remove the paint etc

this worries me a little as im worried it might damage the rims

and i herd shotblastig cad harden the metal making it more britle

any else had alloy wheels shot blasted

Ive had many rally wheels bead blasted (not as abrasive as shot) in the past with no problems at all.

I think powder coating of car alloys is the norm rather than stove enamelling - although the latter may give a better finish. I had my Senator's alloys shot-blasted, chemically cleaned then powder coated. The final finish looked as good as new if not better.

Ill let you know tomorrow

going to fetch them hopefully

was told my the bloke there that powdercoating is quite a crude coating and that they would do a much nicer and more durable finish

i had a set of rims cleaned off by shot blasting and then powder coated, the finish was very good, they got hot around the bolt holes(alconbury trackday) and lost wheel bolt tension, when i checked them the powder coating had come off around the contact area of the wheel bolt shroud.no problems after i had cleaned off the wheel bolt seat area.this maybe somethign to do with who did mine, but something you might want to be mindful of.

Triple S

These guys are probably the best powder coaters I have ever used, they have done alloy bike frames for me, wheels for cars and bikes and their prices are very reasonable.

You could do no worse than giving Andy a ring at triple S, they are awkward to find but do have a collection and delivery service.

Fluff'

I used to deliver to Triple S (also known as Cat) when i did multi drop - nice guy to talk to.

I asked about having a set of 17" TT alloys done and was quoted £40 - £45 per rim which is about the same as a refurb but should last longer?

The only thing was it was a limited choice of colours
