oil light on

Featured Replies

Hi I have a diesel 1.6 tdi 06 reg .

not high miles maybe 40k . this runs fine BUT when you start the engine the iol light goes out ok and will stay out as long as you do not rev it higher than 1500 rpm. then the red oil light comes on and bleep bleep bleep . i have fitted a new pressure switch checked the oil pressure with another light.

There seems to be no issues with the engine as it runs fine no noises in fact its been like this for many miles.

I think its an electrical problem any ideas people.

Are you sure it's not a 1.4 or a 1.9?  Don't think Mk1 Fabias come with a 1.6 engine?

Sounds to me like the wire has broken, somewhere between the pressure switch and the back of the instruments module.

Is it a black wire going into the pressure switch connector? If so, it seems to become a green/black wire at a 14-way connector somewhere near the battery, then carries on through the firewall connector to pin 23 of the 32-way connector on the back of the instruments module (clocks).  Most likely it will be broken near where it goes into the back of the strain-relief of the pressure switch connector, but the plastic insulation may not have parted completely, so it may look OK until you get in close.

I see you've re-posted this in the Mk2 sections, so I think my wire colour and routing info may well not apply, as that was for a 2006 Mk1,. Still a bit confused about how an 06 reg can be a Mk2 though.

Still think you'll find it's the wire that's bust.  I think below 1500 rpm the oil pressure switch isn't 'consulted', which might be the reason you're not seeing warnings when you keep rpm lower than that.

Ah. Theres abit more info here than on the MK2 post :D

Maybe the OP could provide a little more info?

Must be a Mk2 if its a 1.6CR. However, im confused too. As the 1.6 didnt come out until a few years later, did it?

What is the actual oil pressure (checked with a gauge?).

had a new switch fitted and a wire from battery via new switch to a bulb this works the other way from a normal old fashioned type in as much the light stays on with pressure then goes off when there is none. I was worried that it had no pressure but it runs too well not to have any. I recon more likely a wire problem as suggested by another person on here . It is as far as i know a 1.6 tdi 06 reg.

They didn't do a 1.6 diesel in 2006. That's a MK1 so will be a 1.9.

If a dash board light is showing when the engine is running, then it won't pass it's MOT.

You would have to put an on/off switch in the wire to switch it off prior to MOT time, NOT ideal.

DB.

If you earth the wire from the switch the light should go off with engine running that will test if you have a short somewhere. The switch works opposite to most as it makes contact when it has pressure and the dash decides when to show the light and buzzer depending on rpm.

it really does need sorting as its a good car the pressure is ok i am sure as i had fitted a new switch and the light reacts ok with a bulb wired from battery via switch.

best answer so far by far i am not worried about the engine just drives us mad when it bleeps 3 times after you go over 1500 rpm and the light stays on but it will have to be sorted soon.

thanks for your input.

What's your engine code?

very good point i had worked out that the switch works the opposite way round.

What's your engine code?

when i next see the car i will post the code on here but i have been told its a 1.6 the later engine in the early body (NOT the new shape now). that used to have either a 1.4 or 1.9

Log book could give you all the info concerning size/ type etc of engine..

I'd be extremely surprised. But I like surprises.

Maybe a photo would be better?
