How do you get that economy Fudge, please let us in to your secrets. That's as good as I was getting on my diesel Yaris 90 bhp.

  • More expensive to buy. Fuel is messy to fill up, sounds like a tractor, smoke gives us cancer and asthma, DPFs block up, everyone thinks your a tight arse.....need I go on?

  • 'More expensive to buy'  - yes if buying new, but no discernible difference on used 6 month old cars.   'Fuel messy to fill up' - had diesels over 10 yrs so used to it   'Gives us cancer and asthm

  • My choice between TSI and TDI was a simple calculation. If petrol is 44mpg and the diesel 63mpg, it equals (being in metric system) to 6,4l/100km and 4,5l/100km. It's a 2 litre difference per 100 km.

I got 1. 2 110bhp and im getting 62mpg atm. Lovely car and so easy to drive

Amazing!

I nearly saw 60mpg on the 40 odd mile drive back from the Dealer when I collected it. With 4k on the clock it's now averaging around 52mpg.

All I need to do now is decide whether it's an SE-L (with pana roof) or and Monte. Can't quite get my head around the upholstery in the Monte and wonder if it'll just make me look a bit of a ****** at my age - (just turned 50)

You've made me smile. I'm having exactly the same dilemma (turn 50 next month). Had a Mk1 Fabia VRS and loved it but cant get y head around that interior. It really is "in your face".

Like you, if I choose to go Fabia rather than the other alternative, I'm looking at an SEL with the colour concept and the sports seats. Theres no lumbar support available on any of the Fabia seats, but I found the sports seats in my old Fabia, to be comfortable and supportive throughout my ownership.

Let us know what you end up deciding.

I am nearer 60 than 50, and as much as i dislike the Monte Carlo interior,

with some Ebay / Amazon Stretch Nylon seat covers and a beaded back relief cover (& 6 point harness to stop me sliding off)

on my seat i think the interior will be sorted.

We've covered just over 500 miles, mix of town and motorway, in the 110 manual estate and it's sitting at 38 odd mpg, which tbh I hope increases a fair bit.

I average 46mpg out of my 110 Octavia.

Yeh that's the kind of figure I'm expecting from ours, will wait and see if it settles down to a higher figure.

As it stands my Abarth gets better mpg.

I find you have to drive pretty gently to get that and follow the gear change indicator religiously. I can get over 50mpg if I'm really gentle, bit the Octavia is heavier, so its never going to be as good as a Fabia's mpg.

I've had my Fabia Estate for 10 months now and brim the tank on a weekly basis. The lowest I've had is 45 mpg for a week of pure urban driving and the best on a run was 55. Being in my mid 50s I'm obviously not a boy racer, however neither do I drive like Miss Daisy.

So finally, finally took the plunge into Fabia ownership. Bought a 12 month old Black Magic Tsi 90 with panoramic roof, armrest, privacy glass, full size spare and managed to pick it up for £8.5k with next 2 services thrown in. Has only done 3k miles (was dealer's bodywork repair courtesy car and registered to them) not one of the many ex-Europcar rentals that are doing the rounds. Had it a week now and am really impressed.

Personally I would have preferred the 110 HP 6 speed version, but my twin boys will be driving in a couple of years so wanted to keep the ins group and number of gears as simple as poss. Loving it - and that roof of course. Replaces 2012 Mini Countryman SD All 4 - really liked that too, but a bit noisy, poor ride quality and of course massively overpriced as it's a BMW / Mini product. Thank god I bought it second hand, as the depreciation on that one from new of truly biblical proportions once all the optional extras taken into the sums.

All in all the Fabia is a great bit of kit at that price and blows the competition away - Polo, Clio, 208 etc.

Good,

i only see the Hire Cars sitting parked up ready to be hired, and not many that seem to get hired.

As for Dealerships Demonstrators they do their 3,000 miles or 3 months before being sold on if buyers are found.

Not sure that any are less likely to have had abuse than others.

I suspect the many hire cars that Skoda UK got out to Fleet / Hire companies are pretty unused.

(surely the days of 'Clocking up', have gone.   ie putting miles on them that the car never covered, rather than clocking which was taking miles off.)
