really strange annoying gear change

Featured Replies

good evening looking for a bit of input with something that's doing my head in at times

when i change gear, doesn't really matter what gear to be fair i get a sort of jerk when bringing the clutch pedal back up after selecting gear, the best way to describe it is like when we all first started learning to drive and our gear changing would be a bit messy and the car would bounce as you haven't really mastered gear changing yet, its not my driving style or anything like that as ive drove other vrs's and skodas in general and no issues whatsoever, its as if you need to slowly bring the pedal back up in order for it to be a smooth engaging of the clutch, ive sorted a few issues out in the past, new clutch, bearing, flywheel all genuine nov 2014, sent the box away to have a noisy bearing replaced end of last year and the dogbone mount got replaced 2014 as well, i would say the issue has most likely been there from the start, another thing i notice is if your in say second gear and blip the throttle and let off you can feel the car "bouncing", its not something i do when driving just something ive noticed which might also be tied in which made me start thinking about engine and box mounts

the accelerator pedal needs changed with the usual lifting the pedal up to bring the revs back down, for a while i was thinking this may be part of the problem as its been quite bad for reving high at idle until you lift the pedal back up and the turbos either ready to go or its on its last legs, very whiney and slight play on the intake turbine but i have my doubts the turbo has anything to do with it, replacing it soon anyway

theres nothing obvious with the engine and box mount when shaking the engine by hand

dont suppose anyone else has had similar issues like me?

Ta

I would change the pedal first and see how it is after that

You can do a basic check of the mounts yourself if the handbrake is ok.

Open bonnet, sit in car and start engine.

With engine running, handbrake on, select 1st gear and raise the clutch pedal to biting point.

Observe the top of the engine through the gap at the bottom of the windscreen, does it move a LOT, the clutch engaging slightly introduces a twist as the wheels attempt to rotate but the brake holds the car. You can try easing off the clutch and up to biting point quickly over and over again to watch the movement. Some movement maybe expected, but not excessive amounts. Possible front mounts worn.

Repeat with reverse, only this time the engine will move the opposite direction, if you get loads of movement it could indicate the rear mounts are worn.

Hope its not as bad as this.

Haven't had a chance to give it a check but another thing I notice is sometimes if your at a standstill and take off in first when your lifting the clutch pedal the car can shoot forward harshly, never put that in my original post

Not the best video but tried what you said as it was only me, didn't have someone to find the bite whilst I recorded

That does seem to be moving quiet a lot, although difficult to tell which mount maybe causing it.

You think so?, it's either engine or gearbox, dogbone was done, might get a couple mounts from a breaker and then buy new if it is that

Never really got back to this thread since creating the post

Replaced the pedal and the high idle was cured to an extent but I'm still getting the above description, new pedal is even playing up again, lifting it up brings the revs back down, it can be so harsh taking off from a standstill, I've never been as stumped with a car as much as this lol
