Squeaky brakes on my citigo sport 2014

Featured Replies

Help needed.

My brakes are squeaky loudly.

Probably best get them looked over for safety sake. Can you tell if it's front or rear? Given the recent weather it's probably the back drums wanting cleaning and adjusting up.

Certainly the case on mine, mostly when engaging in reverse.

If it's the fronts, could be a bit of grit/stone or metal, more of a grunchy tone than squeak.

Rear drums tend to squeak a little. Silly question, when was the car last cleaned? Could be a build up of brake dust.... Blast them through with pressure washer and see if that works.

....although the accepted way is to remove the drums and clean them properly!

My apologies if I've caused confusion

I was thinking more the fronts needing a blasting off as the op doesn't say whether it's back or front. I always assume people have some knowledge. Front brakes squeaking indicates either small stone trapped, build up of brake dust or they are glazed through overheating. Had to change the front and rear pads on my GTi as there was a persistent squeak on the o/s front and intermittent on the n/s rear Once removed there was nothing visibly the matter with the pads, but once the new pads were on, no more squeak. It's just a matter of elimination. And there may not even be a"cause" it may just be the pads/shoes themselves.

Perhaps the op isn't aware the the drums can't really be blasted out with a pressure washer, I assumed that he would realised that. and yes you're quite correct that the drum assembly should be removed and cleaned inside and any dust build up removed from around the shoes and re-adjusted if necessary.

I hope I didn't cause any confusion as it was more of a suggestion for the fronts really as a no cost/no hassle remedy.
