Dealer price for 2 year service

Featured Replies

I put my 2 year old Octavia 1.4TSI in for it's 2 year/20,000 mile service and was given a price of £289. It's on a fixed service schedule.

When I went to pick it up the final figure was £217! When I queried this good news I was told it was just the way the labour charges worked out.

At the risk of spoiling a good thing - was I given an incorrect initial price, or has something been dropped from the service schedule? Or perhaps I got a jolly good discount from the dealer.

Anyway I'm not complaining just curious. The only work done on the car was an oil change and unblocking of rear wash nozzle.

When I had the 2 year service on my 2012 Octavia vRS the final bill was £40 less than the quote.  The reason given was that some of the filters didn't need changing.

Sounds like overcharged,

if a Minor Service being counted as a Major Service & charged as such.

(Unblocking rear Washer you would expect to be Warranty and no Labour Charged.)

Maybe post was was done other than Oil & Filter Service, Fluids check and Report, / Inspection. Reset Service Indicator.

?

What Parts requires.

So Long Life Oil

& Filter and Sump Plug.

Washer Fluid.

Pollen Filter?   Anything else?

Was there a Roadtest done,

Diagnostic and Software Updates / Enhancements?

Don't skoda offer fixed price servicing for minor and major services?

  • Author

gullyg (see previous post) beat me to it.

Anyway see screenshot from Skoda service page. Note the bit about the price being the maximum and the possibility of actually getting it cheaper.

If I take out the charge for fixing the rear wash nozzle the price works out at £200'ish

Only real difference I can see between major and minor services is the possibility of getting the filters changed if the garage thinks so.

All in all I'm happy with the outcome

My thoughts, 'never look a gift horse...'

If it turns out that after asking Skoda to carry out a 2 year service and Skoda confirming by way of invoice that 2 year service had indeed been done then if anything crops up you are inconvenienced but covered.

Just my take on it as when I had cc fitted the price went down by £25 owing to reduced labour charges.

Minor £139

Major £259

But these are for fixed mileage servicing rather than variable.

These fixed prices are only valid for cars older than 3 years so whilst the car is still under warrenty the dealer can give a quote for the service which can be (but shouldn't be) so different from these price.

They are a good place to start with when discussing with the dealer though.

200gbp doesn't sound too far out for me seeing as it is its 2nd service with oïl & filter changes.

There's always extras some dealer try to charge for like 5L of washer fluid so perhaps this was provided in the initial quote.

I wouldn't stand for that. Ask to speak to the service manager and insist you pay the higher price :D

So the thing is, was there anything done at this service which was more than would have been done for the £139 Service other than the extra part, 'Pollen Filter' and did it get a Pollen Filter.

Was there anymore checks done or time spent (Labour) at this service than they do at a cheaper Minor Service?

The Wheels were not off where they?

So is all the other checks on the 'Health Check record',  AC Checked, Belts etc all done?

A Major / Inspection Service but just without the need for the expense of parts, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter or other bits and pieces.

Clever marketing.

You expect to pay £289.

They only charge you £217 - a perceived saving of £72.

They make an extra £78 without you even realising as they should have only charged you £139.

You are happy, they are happy.

A 20,000 mile service is oil, oil filter and a few visual checks, nothing more, i.e. a minor £139 service.

Money for old rope.

My last service was just under 500 quid  :'(  but this had DSG gear oil change on its equivalent to 4 year /40k service (in just over a year!) - luckily its a company car

..so If my interpretation is correct for a 20,000 mile major service

  £259 - for cars 3 to 10 years old

£289 - for cars 1 to 3 years old      /* couldn't find any advertising on the Skoda website to verify this */

....and presumably only pay these max prices if they choose to replace the filters otherwise you pay less,,,,,

The dealers are all franchises, so up to three years old can charge their own labour rates, they are not dictated by Skoda. The only thing that costs the same is the parts, so phoning around dealers will get you varying prices based on their labour rate. The fixed price servicing kicks in at three years, where all rates are dictated by Skoda however a lot of cars at that point go off to be serviced by independents as they are usually still cheaper despite the fixed Skoda price.

A lot of dealers will honour the fixed price servicing on cars under three years old.

If they don't or won't entertain a price match then walk away.

Well I've been lucky then.

I've never had any main dealer quibble about paying the fixed price service for a Skoda under 3 years old.

I've been calling about today for prices as there are a few Skoda, dealers in my area.

They were pretty similar for the 20k service, one being £230 and other £209 (includes pollen filter, they made a big deal about this). Then I asked about doing discs and pads all round as the first owner did god knows what to them. The total price went to £670 the other to £906. :peek:

These are both franchise, but thought that was a joke.

Look at the fixed repair price list for replacing disc/pads on the Skoda UK website.
