50 mph spare wheel can it go on any axle

Featured Replies

I ordered a 50 mph steel rimmed spare wheel for my Fabia SEL. Does anyone know if if can be fitted to any axel. As of yet I have not had to use it. Joe

Yes, it will go on any wheel.

Yeah, any axle.

I must have angered the gods by asking the question as the orange tyre low pressure light came on I was only 10 mins away from home and it was dark so drove home gently. Sod's law dictates it will be pouring down in the morning. I foolishly thought the car would tell you which tyre was down on pressure but no. Joe

Nope. Doesnt do that.

Not sure if it says on VCDS, but it doesnt on the cars display on the mk2 either, or our yeti.

Sorry to hear about your flat Peddos. Where did you get it? My last flat was at the council dump off the Tyne Tunnel road and the previous was outside B and Q which I blamed on spilt nails.

Hi SoupDragon I am not sure if I got a flat all the tyre pressures were down and yes it was raining and blowing a gale when I went out to check them. Struggled to get a reading on my tyre pressure gauge but like me they are pretty ancient. I have a pump that plugs into the car but it takes ages to blow them all up. I need to get to a garage to use their air line. If its not to far away try the tip at Wide Open the guys keep a pretty neat yard. Joe

I've got one of those electric pumps as well. but I find it quicker to use my bicycle pump and muscle power. It's a high pressure stirrup pump, but you know about it when you've pumped up 4 tyres. Bebside dump for me, near Blyth, very clean and tidy and helpful guys as well, but it's sort of outside my council area so I can not take a wheely bin there because it's got the NTC badge on it.I am in Benton. I ordered a steel rimmed spare when I bought the car and as far as I know, it's got a regular road tyre on it. Not speed limited and suits all corners, But, I have never even looked at it. BTW Pacific Blue is the BEST COLOUR.

The Full Size spare is Speed Limited in as far as common sense should tell you it is a New Tyre (green / fresh)

the other 3 on will be used, so you put on the new tyre as a Temp and drive a bit easy as the pressure might be different,

3 wheels might be alloys and the odd 4th is a steel rim, so different weight on the same axle as the other wheel / tyre.

the size a little different and the release agent still coating the tyre.

That's a good point Offski, it would be a brand new tyre and should be treated easy for at least 100 miles. It would be very different to the other tyres.

Felt I had to do a follow up on Joe Peddos comment about the Tyre pressure warning

I had the light come on some months ago and it did tell me which wheel the pressure was down on I then stopped and did a check and could not find any loss of pressure, so reset the warning.

A few weeks later the light came on for the same wheel and again I could not find any loss of pressure. My initial thought the system had developed a fault.

When I got home I put the car up on a jack and checked the wheel. To my surprise there was a very small nail in the tyre with must and been letting a very small amount of air out.

It would seem that the tyre pressure system is remarkably accurate.

Should add I have a Mk 3
