New to the world of Skoda!

Featured Replies

The wife wanted a replacement to her boring Audi A3tdi, so I suggested she looked at the Ibiza Cupra TD and the Skoda.

Cupra was super fast, but god was the suspension primative (harsh), the build quality wasn't great either and it was 4 grand more. Step into the VRS and what a fantastic car. So much more solid and the suspension actually moved up and down over bumps! She has had it for 3 months and 10,000 miles now and loves it. It puts a smile on both of our faces everytime we drive it. It's also very entertaining seeing the reaction of other drivers when you shove your foot down on the loud pedal!

I've been used to very heavily modified Saabs and although the top end it not there, it has just the same lovely low down kick. I really think that these cars take a huge amount of beating for the money.

Thinking of treating her (or is that for me!!) to a remap/tuning box, so any advice would be appreciated.

Jez:)

Welcome, glad you are enjoying the new motor. Have a look around here and you'll find lots of info on tuning your motor (wife's motor).

Jez - you sure seem to be a guy with your head screwed on.

Depending on what you want out of a car of course, the Fabia vRS really does excell at most things.

If you are looking for a simple ECU software upgrade, do a search for Revo, AMD, Jabba, Custom Code, RICA, One-Click (to name but a few).

For a perhaps more "crude" type of tuning, try Dragon for example.

There really is a wealth of information on this site.

But, a seriously tempting deal at the moment, the AMD 1-Click system for just

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the message. I agree with the Fabia excelling at most things. The only things I could criticise it for is the small boot and the iffy seat colour. In pretty much every other area, it is brilliant. It really feels like a large car on the motorway too, which is great for my wife as she does lots of motorway stuff. I guess handling is so so, but then I'd sooner have that to the appalling ride quality of the Ibiza Cupra.

The AMD deal sounds fantastic and I know the company well by reputation. If memory serves me right, that re-map is usually £550? Any idea what the likely RR result is for the AMD remap as their stated figures appear fairly low?

So, I take it that ecu remaps are superior to the box jobs? This is my experience from the world of Saabs. Can anyone tell me about what happens to mpg as the missus does a lot of miles in her car and therefore it is a consideration for her?

Jez

Oh no, put my name down on the AMD group buy. This site is bad for your wealth!!

Hello and welcome to you and your wife

Hi Jez :wavey:

I too used to have heavilly modded SAABs, seems I mod most of my cars.

As to your question about fuel consumption, in normal everyday usage ie cruising on motorways, I get more out of it modded than standard. Be heavier with your right foot and it will be a lot less eg everyday cruise to work (105-156 miles each way, mainly motorway) I get 50-60mpg, used to get about 45-50. Drive it with some vigour and it'll drop to high 30s-low 40s. Leather it and you can get it into the 20s :D Best to date on a full tank, 12mpg :D :D :D

Welcome,

Great choice in car btw

Welcome from me too. I thought you were talking about an Octavia vRS at first but I see I was wrong. :D

So, which ecu remap/box do you have? Not really sure which to go for. Although the AMD deals seems fantastic, mate at the pub this evening, reckons go for the proper rolling road re-map?

What Saabs did you have? I have just flogged my 9000 Aero (Speedparts Stg 3, Brembo 4 posts, Abbott LSD & all sorts of other stuff!) and also my Classic 900 that I bought off Pete Tandino, which was pretty much the most powerful 900 in the UK. :)

hi.and welcome.

Welcome from me too

Welcome  Nice car! always good to see hubby nicking wifes car!!

Can't really complain about the boot space being in the supermini sector and u get a fair sized one without comprimise of rear leg room which is great really as although it been a supermini u can still sit 5 people in using the practical 5 door system... i dont see people's appeal for 3 doors???

Hello and welcome.

Yes you will find that there is quite a few remaps out there.

We can do Custom-Code.

www.custom-code.co.uk is the web site.

We have been in the remapping game for quite a while and I must admit the power graphs for your car is superb.

It is how a power graph should be.

But by the sound of it I dont think you should stick with just the 1 vrs you may need 2 as with the remap it really drives so much better.

If I can help you please feel free to get in touch with me on 01246 455005

Thank you.

Have fun on this great forum it really is good ;)
