Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

am looking for some constructive comments on the short list of 2 cars that i'm gonna change the Boxster S for in the new year.

here are the cars:-

BMW M3 CSL

or

Porsche 911 C4S

my heart goes with the Porsche but have a real hankering for the CSL after driving one this year.

So what would you all go for??????

Octy II vRS.

Nah i'd go for the M3. Best of a bad bunch. If finances permitted i'd be more of a Merc man.

how often do you use the cars? remember the M3 doens't have a radio.. which can be very annoying after a while. Tho you do have the sound of the engine to keep you going..

M3 for me tbh, just love those wheels, However, given the money, i saw a Noble today, and i fell inlove :p So would have to be a Noble m400 for a similar price.

Having driven the M3 CSL, that gets my vote.

Is it not the case that the tyres on the CSL are only suitable for dry use and only above a certain temperature?

This would tilt the balance towards the Porsche for me.

Porsche.Looks like a supercar,goes like a supercar.Love M3's and CSL is special.Just too many lookalikes around

I've driven both :D

I liked the CSL, lots. If I had to chose a car that I could get in to and just enjoy, it would be on my list. As a daily driver, yes I could cope (you can always fit a radio. As for the tyres, they are nice didn't have any problems with them in the wet, although they hate standing water. Get a second set of wheels for more normal tyres for autumn / spring use.

As for the C4S, was allowed to play for about 8 laps of the Ring by a bunch of NZ journalists who had it on loan from Porsche UK (along with a Merc CL55, an NSX, and an Elise 111S :D ). I adored that car, one of the best drives I've had. Now there was a car I could live with day in day out.

Tough choice my friend, do you go for the ltd edition BMW or the more common place Porker? My money? I'd have the 911.

911 every time

M3 CSL's can be picked up for a lot less than C4S's so from a value for money point of view, it's got to be a CSL.

Both cars are very nice indeed and I can't see that you will be dissappointed with any!

Both are very nice cars, part of me says 911 as they look so nice, but then the BMW sounds nice too. As I will never drive either car I say which is the better but if I had to buy without a test drive just on looks, sounds and reviews it would be the 911

Thank you for your comments so far everyone.

My heart goes with the 911 as i said in the original post as i love Porsche's and have always wanted a 911.

But having driven a CSL around Donnington and been a passenger for 4 very fast around the Nurburgring in one i loved the edge and harshness of the CSL and of course the sound!!!!!

well as for mileage it is my sort of weekend car as i have the Octy to use the rest of the time but i've still done 17,000 miles in the Boxster since March this year, its not a drive ornament as i love driving etc.

at the moment after reading your comments i'm no closer to making a decision!!!LOL

have got another test drive in a 911 C4S next week so hopefully that will help me.

thanks again, anymore comments very much appreciated.

I would get the M3 tbh.

I was at a trackday on Sat and it was very very, wet, don't know what tyres or mods they were running ( or if the 911 driver was chicken) but the M3 toasted him in the bends and on the straight. It even sorted a 430bh Evo.

i agree that the M3 CSL is chaeper than a 911 and faster so could be regarded as better value for money.

There is something about the CSL that i love,at the Nurburgring on various trips i made this year the M3 CSL gets more interest than nearly all other cars other than Ferrari's,Pagani's and Carrera GT's.

and the way they are dropping in value at the moment i can see them dropping to approx £30K-£34K in the new year.

although i would also say that the 911 C4S has dropped in value since the 997 came out, have seen them at Specialist Porsche dealers for between £43K-£48K.

i have also booked a test ride in a new R32 Golf as it gets a very good write up in EVO this month.

Decisions,decisions!!!!!!!

Driven neither, but on my own preferences on looks, badge, and having a sit at motor shows it'd be the Porsche every time.

911

I'd have the 911 just because I've always wanted one, and will have one... some day. :) M3 is probably faster and better value, but I'm too biased. Thinking with my heart than my head. ;)

M3. More practical. And I'd get a towbar :>
