Door warning light problem

Featured Replies

I've got an 08 Fabia 2 estate and have had the door warning light coming on and off with the usual 'bonging'. Now it's always on so at least it doesn't make the noise.

I've read a lot of threads on this and was going to get a diagnostic done to identify which door it is (or if it is the window mechanism), but I took a load to the tip and had to squash a large bag of leaves into the boot which pressed hard on the tailgate. This solved the warning light problem until I emptied the car - suggesting that the problem is with the tailgate lock rather than one of the doors. I tried adjusting the latching plate (both ways) but this didn't solve it. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it by adjusting the tailgate in some way?

Thanks for your time

I was gonna suggest the boot lock until I started reading the whole post. The boot lock is EXTREMELY sensitive and mine packed up after lubing it, which I thought would be a good thing!  I had to replace it as it had difficulty opening the boot, sounding like a machine gun rather then just "Firing" once to open. If it turns out to be the lock, they are not overly expensive new, at least on the hatchback variant. Less then £30 so don't get stung by spending more on a used one as they might not last too long anyway!

I re-read your post.... You are not opening the doors with your light left turned on are you? This sets off the bonging to show you you are a nutter who has left his/her lights on after removing the key and getting out the car! :wall:

Thanks mrgf - no, leaving the light on isn't the problem. The lock works fine apart from the warning light. When it went out with the back full and pressing on the door, I wondered if I could adjust the rubber stops to put more tension on the lock - any thoughts? Otherwise, do you think spending money on a diagnostic is worth it? Do you know how specific the information is? I was interested to read that the window mechanism can be a source of door warning light problems too. Anyway, thanks for the tip on the price - good to know that the lock mechanism isn't too expensive.
