Head unit

Featured Replies

I'm currently driving a MK3 fabia as a courtesy car while my vrs had its leaky boot fixed. I absolutely love the head unit that the car has, it has touch screen, phone, parking sensors and all that lot, just wondering if I can upgrade my 13 plate VRS head unit to have something practically the same.

I've checked the search but that thing is a joke to say to least, no lay off with the abuse please, ha!

Yours will have the older style head unit while the car you're driving now has the new MIB range of infotainment. The two are not interchangeable I'm afraid.

FYI much better off using Google to search Briskoda.

You cant fit that headunit, as its not compatible.

However, you have got an option of other stuff. Amundsen or Columbus are better than the standard Swing (assuming thats what you've got?)

Or you can go aftermarket and get a better unit again. I've got a Zenec Z-E2015 in my Fab. It does everything tbf. Sat nav, Bluetooth, parking sensors, climate, reverse camera, Maxidot, steering wheel controls etc etc. Sounds much better than OEM units and the adjustability on everything is brilliant.

Sorry lads/lasses but I don't want the exact same as the Mk3 - I kinda guessed that you can't swap them over. I would like something that does what this one does.

Nice one. Thanks for the heads up :-)

Then your options are a Columbus unit, a Bluetooth module, and possibly some coding to make it all work. Or you could go aftermarket and take a chance of any number of excellent or terrible units, depending on how much you want to research and spend.

RNS315 (Amundsen) with Bluetooth is a good OE unit.

I've had the Kenwood dnx521dab which was amazing but I've got the newer model Kenwood dnx525dab

Indeed, although the screen size is a minus point for me.

Really appreciate the replies people.

Not been an issue with me, tend to be looking at the road rather than the screen. Certainly not as good as the Coloumbus, but then not as expensive either.

Having had the Swing, Columbus and now have some experience with the Amundsen I'd opt for the Columbus any day. The screen on the Columbus is a real plus point, nice and big, and touch screen. I like the 3 button set-up on the Amundsen and the navigation through the music seams easier than the Columbus while you'r driving as you don't have to look down as much but with the Amundsen there is the drawback of the expensive map upgrades to contend with. There are positives and negatives of each unit. Maybe VW should have gone the whole hog and built the Columbus with 3 buttons as well.

I have no idea what head unit it is ha!

Amundsen is touch screen too. If someone was going to give me one I'd have a Columbus, but just having one unit to fit did make the install a doddle.

Yes, but it kind of invites you to use the buttons more than the screen though. I don't know, I find it kind of strange after using the Columbus for so long.

i'll be honest. I didnt rate the Columbus i had at all really. The functionality was there, but it was horribly slow and the sound quality was like hitting a spoon against a tin can compared the the Swing i took out. Even with the £300 upgraded Audison speakers, which did actually sound pretty good with the Swing.

So i didn't keep that long. Sold it. Paid a little more and got the Zenec. It's quick, looks fairly OEM, sound quality is fantastic, sat nav's spot on, all the controls and Maxidot display works like they would with a Skoda unit. 3 (might be 4 actually. cant not sure) USB's in the glovebox, along with a 3.5mm phono input, more inputs in the back than i care to remember :D etc etc

Not cheap, but easily worth the extra over the Columbus, IMO.

I didnt get mine from here, but here it is..
