Dashboard warning

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been getting a dashboard warning for some time now. I can be driving at any speed and then any time the dashboard matrix will say 'engine fault, workshop' At the same time the coil light will flash and a pinging warning sound. This happens for about four flashes and pings and then it goes.

The car doesn't go into limp mode. The car runs as good as it always does. I did take the car to an independent Skoda garage that I can trust and after plugging in his laptop and cancelling out the fault he said it was the exhaust pressure sensor. He also went on to say that it will come back and that it's not a cheap fix, around £130.

I had a look under the bonnet towards the top drivers side to check the pressure sensor and according to this forum if you have one made in the USA they're no good and to replace with one from Malaysia.. Well mine is a Malaysian one.

Is it possible it can go again? Is there another sensor? Any ideas. The car is CR TDI with 75k.

Thanks very much.

Well, if he has read the fault codes, we have to assume that the pressure sensor has failed.

FYI the sensor is £55 +VAT, and the replacement time is 30 mins.

The problem is that if it isn't replaced, eventually the car will not only go into limp mode, it will be unable to run a regen on the DPF which will block up.

£130 looks a bit high, mine went at 79,000 and was £108, but i guess it depends on the labour rates charged.

Also the new sensor has to be adapted with VCDS or similar before the engine is started. So whilst it is pretty easy to change not straightforward without vcds.

Thanks for getting back to me on this one.

Well i better get on with it then.

Prevention is better than cure and all that.

Makes sense.....

I agree, definitely get it replaced sooner rather than later, a blocked DPF will be a whole lot more painful.

The "Made in Malaysia" sensors, while infinitely better than the US ones do still fail from time to time.
