What Oil?

Featured Replies

What brand of Oil does everyone use on their FL Octy vRS CR?

I've seen the list of oils I can use but there's plenty to choose from.

Ta!

I normally will consider anything that is 504/507 spec. and sold in 5 litres.

The Quantum stuff that the dealer uses can be had cheap enough on ebay delivered to your door, but i've also bought other brands from euro car parts in bulk before when they have had a ridiculous offer on. Last time I went to a VW dealer they had ordered a lot so ended up buying 20 litres at a very good price.

That's great Thanks. I was looking at the Castrol and it was nearly £40.

So from what I can gather it's made by Castrol and this is what VAG dealers use?

I use quantum from eBay. Think it was Cardiff Audi that had it cheapest for 29 litres last time I ordered it.

We've got 3 vehicles that all use it so buy in bulk(ish).

Quantum (Castrol) that the main dealers use, £20.60 for five litres delivered to your door from a Skoda dealer in Scotland...

Or for an extra 10p you can buy it from the Audi main dealer in Bristol...

Blummin Audi premium charges again, :giggle: .

I've just checked the web link and Parks of Hamilton is doing Quantum for £18.99. With free P&P that's got to be a steal.. they're 15 minutes away from me I w wonder what it costs over the counter

The prices have dropped today, since I posted the same links back in post #3!

This is the result of a pricing war, long may it continue, stock up now whilst it lasts!

This is only good for PD engines and older without DPF and on fixed service interval.

Its the gold bottle you need for most modern cars

It's dropped another pound overnight, now £17.99!

It's like playing the stock markets.......................................only in reverse.

Not that I ever have, Lol.

Do I buy now? ..................................Or do I wait another night?

Am I right in saying the Gold one in the first link is suitable for the CR 170? Sorry if it's Rhetorical. I have about 3500K before my service is due (fixed major) and might buy this as a friend of mine has pointed me in the direction of an Indy centre who charges way less than the dealership. Might give them a call and see if they'll accept me supplying the oil.

Worth a try eh?

Yes, you need the gold one.

Your CR170 has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) so you must run oil that meets the VW 507.00 spec (basically the highest spec oil Skoda use), regardless of which service intervals you are on.

At £18 for 5 litres you really can't go wrong. It won't stay this cheap for long, buy now whilst you can!

Bargain!! I bought some just before Xmas for £23.99!

Cheers mate for confirming that!
